I thought it was pretty good. Like Lord of the Rings but not boring :P. Charlize Theron was fantastic and the visuals were great.

LOL! I did turn to my cousin and comment on this scene. Why do people always feel the need to explain their motives in movies to the person they plan to kill?

Similar to my opinion and same grade. I also thought shots reminded me of LOTR-esque and the troll reminded me of Del Toro's mind, but overall I thought it was meh. It was okay. I don't think I'd buy the thing on dvd though. Theron was good as the queen though.

Kristen Stewart cannot act happy (her attempt at a smile at the end was hilarious), so the central crux of the entire film falls apart. But Charlize is sexy and the dwarves are fun.

Better than Alice, but that's hardly an achievement.

Hmm, I honestly didn't think this was better than Mirror Mirror, though. About equal.

A couple of the creatures reminded me of something Del Toro would come up with.

Because they more or less are creatures he HAS come up with. :P The fairies, for example, are very similar to the tooth fairies in Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

I think this would have been a lot better if they had left out some of the scenes that seemed to be a desperate attempt keep the fairytale aspect in it. Like the fairies riding on bunnies and the whole white stag thing.

lol those were by fare the best aspects of the film, most pretty and impressive visuals, the most charisma and energy and entertainment.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

I agree one hundred percent. Those were the only scenes I enjoyed. Otherwise this was just ponderous and incredibly dull. I didn't even enjoy Theron hamming it up. She needed to go more Nicolas Cage on the whole thing.

I remember when the first trailer came out for this and we all thought it looked stunning. Sadly the film is as bland as you can get.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Hmm, it was ok film, but with criticisms. Firstly, Kristen Stewart is not beautiful, so it makes no sense that Charlize Theron would need to eliminate her to become the fairest of them all. A 40 year-old Theron is twice the beauty that Kristen Stewart is, and she yet again plays a miserable young bitch (I'm sure there are dozens of lovely young actresses that could have filled her part). I hope people do not view Kristen Stewart as a reflection of youth today, it's so not like that. Stewart just still cannot act, she seems awkward and embarrassed to be on a movie set for the umpteenth time. Her "motivational" speech was about as convincing as me declaring Channing Tatum the world's best actor. Charlize Theron hams it up, and not in a good way. Though for such an "evil queen", she was surprisingly good at letting people live. I actually liked Chris Hemsworth. He acted well, and tried to do a Scottish accent, which was admirable (at times). I liked how, in a way, they included Sleeping Beauty into the Snow White fairytale. The film definitely had a dark and grim style, but at least it had style, so that's an achievement.

The dwarves were quite good, probably about as good as they were in Mirror Mirror, even though Gus, the one that died, looked exactly like Peter Jackson. I preferred Nion (Hot Fuzz's Nick Frost) more than the others.

Some of the imagery in the film was artisticly beautiful, like the Evil Queen soaking herself in milk, the veil-covered-mirror-man appearing after the famous words are uttered, and then when Snow White is being chased on horseback there is a wide-angle long range shot showing how far back the chasers were, which was nice - but it wasn't built upon after the first 30 minutes and the rest of the movie was cinematographically ugly. Speaking of those famous words, though, I think Theron tried her best to deliver it in a non-cheesy way, but unfortunately those words just can't be said in any other way. I thought it was funny when Bob Hoskins says, in true Matrix stylee, "she is..the one". But if she truly embodied "life" and "healing", then why was the Dark Forest so dead for the whole time she was in it? Bit weird. It was also a bit weird that, when given the chance, the Evil Queen would rather talk (on two occasions) to Snow White than stab her in the face and kill her instantly. Then we get Snow White going from an innocent, fragile girl to a Joan of Arc warrior figure within, what, a week or so? Quite laughable.

Yet again, a blockbuster is as generic as they come, and it pales next to the truer and riskier Mirror Mirror. It seems in their mission to appease the four quadrants, studios are missing the point of entertainment and just pumping out formulaic trash. Of all the blockbusters from 2012, most have been garbage, with only a few being worthy of praise (Skyfall, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey). As long as they keep pumping out mediocrity like Battleship, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, John Carter, The Hunger Games, and this, then I'll gladly keep lambasting them for it.

Oh, and I could not stand that, despite her being locked up for years in dire conditons, Kristen Stewart still had a lovely set of pearly whites.
