Re: The Princess and the Frog
I thought I wrote a review for this one - - but perhaps I didn't because I was so incredibly disappointed with The Princess and the Frog. From the story to the characters to the songs, this was one boring mess.
1 out of 5.

1 out of 5. Yeah, having an independant working class black woman just aint right. Bradley wants to get back to those blond damsels in distress disney!

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

1 out of 5. Yeah, having an independant working class black woman just aint right. Bradley wants to get back to those blond damsels in distress disney! Interesting interpretation of my review. It seems to be a continuation of Michael A's same psychological motivation as seen in his comment in the Grown Ups review thread: Bradley Witherberry wrote: As aspected from this bunch, there's several rich patches of hearty laughs in Grown Ups.
Unfortunately, it suffers from some seriously clunky writing and an instant 20% deficit with Chris Rock. That's the second time I've seen him this year after Death at a Funeral, and both times he stunk the movie out with his bad acting - - Youch! Despite the great work he's done in stand-up and sketch comedy, Chris Rock just plain don't translate to film. So with that 20% off, Grown Ups can only rate a 4 out of 5 max - - but with that half lousy script, I gotta rate this one: 2.5 out of 5 so far...
But one thing that slightly saves Grown Ups is some o' dat fine lady actin' - - great choice of old gals! So the women add a full 0.5 uptick to my score. This movie's for a definite older skewing demo, who want a little bittersweet humor (heavy on the sweet) in their mass entertainment this summer - - so come on out undiscerning oldtimers and belly up to the trough for some of Hollywood's finest slop.

Agreed with bradley on Chris Rock. Bradley Witherberry wrote: Out of all the KJer's, I think I agree with Michael A's film reviews more than almost anyone (except maybe MovieDude and Shack) - - he has very good taste in film. So it's quite surprising to see him write something as stupid as the above. I wonder what the psychological motivation behind it could be? Does anyone have any theories on what's causing this abnormal behavior in Michael A?

Re: The Princess and the Frog
This is really good, and certainly worth a look if you haven't checked it out. I'd say the strongest part of the movie is the very beginning. "Down in New Orleans", "Almost There", and "Friends on the Other Side" are easily among the best Disney songs ever. "Dig a Little Deeper" and "When We're Human" are also enjoyable, but probably won't be classics. The only songs I didn't like were the ones the lightning bug sang; they were boring and I really could have done without him and his whole "Evangeline" subplot. Dr. Facilier is actually a really great villain, he'd probably rank in my top 5. His death is really awesome too. I really wish Disney would go back to real villains in their movies. the secret villain thing worked very well in Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen, but fell completely flat and felt like a joke to me in Big Hero 6. I also love the vivid picture the film paints of New Orleans and its culture. The plot had several unexpected turns in it as well. Not as poignant as Beauty and the Beast or as fun as Aladdin, but it gives hope that one day, 2-D animation will return.

Re: The Princess and the Frog
This is probably up there with my favorites at this point. Not a fan of the lightning bug character or his songs, but the rest of the movie is wonderful. The main characters are fleshed out, the villain has personality and is intimidating, the side characters are enjoyable without feeling out of place. The rest of the soundtrack is great. And the story is a great modern update on a fairy tale. Easily their best film since The Lion King at the time, and my personal favorite since Aladdin.

Re: The Princess and the Frog
This might not be the top tier WDA movie but its still a wonderful film. The main characters feel a little too safe but the supporting characters (outside of the bug) were great. The songs are great and the twists (specially on the old tale) really work here. The ending is also pretty great and again works very well.

Re: The Princess and the Frog
On a side note I was bummed that this was not even nominated for Best Picture in 2010. It was one of the last Disney 2D animation movies and it really needed to be there, very surprised Illusionist got in over this (and I love that movie as well).
