Two films dubbed as huge scary films destroyed box office receipts in 99, This and Blair Witch, while arguably the scariest film of the year, Stir of Echoes was completely lost in the shuffle.
Its a creepy drama filmed well and good performances all around. The twist is unexpected but I never got the "Oh shit" feeling like when I saw usual suspects or Memento. It was good though and definitely a solid film.
A-
What I originally thought would be a film that didnt hold up well is shot very well and it holds pretty good.

Hmm, I thought the exact opposite, hehe. I thought it was more memorable than The Others and that it was The Others which ending as more predictable (well, I saw it coming halfway into the film)...The Sixth Sense, however...it took me completely aback.

Well like Bruce willis said in Ocean's 12.
"Everyone is so freakin smart all of a sudden, how else did that movie make over 600 million WW"
People see the signs after they've seen the movie then like to say otherwise. I for one didnt find the ending as shocking as some did, but I didnt see that shit coming from anywhere until afterwards.

Back in the day, this movie floored me. I don't think anyone saw it coming... heh. I didn't even know what the movie was about when I walked in. It's a classic, imo.

 Re: The Sixth Sense
With The Visit being released, I'd realized I'd never seen any of the M. Night Shyamalan movies apart from The Village, so I figured I should probably watch all of them, and what better one to start with than his first and biggest hit, The Sixth Sense? I'm sure this was hugely groundbreaking in its day, but I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed that I didn't fall in love with it. It was certainly a good movie, but I'd say so many similar films have come out since that have dulled this one's impact. It didn't help that "I see dead people" has become such a popular quote that even someone who knows nothing else about the film will know the kid is seeing dead people. Unfortunately, I wasn't nearly as invested in Bruce Willis' character as I was in Osment, so the twist at the end surprised me because I thought the kid was the real main character. But it sort of devolves into a story about a man obsessed with work who ignores his family, which has been done to death in recent movies. Osment was very good at making you feel very uncomfortable and scared for him; I was really rooting for him to have his issue resolved, even though it was a bit unclear that the ghosts were not actually bad and just wanted him to help them. Overall, I'd say it was very good, but I didn't think it was the second coming of Christ or anything.

 Re: The Sixth Sense
I rewatched this recently on a plane. This movie really is fantastic and still Shyamalan's best, IMO. It's gorgeously executed and performed.
