 Re: Captain America: Civil War
Good film, though not without pacing issues that slows it down. The main problem I had with the film was the slow/dull lead-up to the Accords, as well as the time spent between the airport battle and the final showdown between Iron Man and Captain America. I'll enjoyed the film enough to catch it again in theaters, so perhaps my opinion will change regarding this, but right now, the pacing keeps this one from outshining the best of the MCU.
The airport battle is possibly Marvel's best fight sequence yet, and the other action scenes in the film were equally as impressive, too, including the Bucky chase sequence and the emotional Iron Man/Captain America fight at the end. The humor is still good, with all the returning actors seemingly still enjoying themselves in these roles. Most everyone, RDJ and Chris Evan in particular, stepped up their acting in this film as well, which is impressive, and probably proved challenging for them, too, considering how many times they've played these characters now.
Spider-Man and Black Panther were successfully, and very effectively, introduced into the universe, helping to establish them before their own upcoming films and future appearances in group films. I never doubted the casting of Tom Holland in the role, or Marvel's film adaptation of the character, but they nailed everything that makes Spider-Man, Spider-Man.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
Something about the first hour of this movie definitely felt off and it wasn't just the choppy action sequences. I don't know if it was a pacing problem because I actually was never bored, but as much as people complained about BvS being too slow and dark for the entire first half I didn't think this was that much different. Of course the payoff was much better here, but from that cold opening until they start recruiting members it was very self serious for the most part with only a few jokes here and there.
Anyways, time for another LIST.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
Why are people generally (not just here) so high on The Avengers? It takes the film a long time to bring the team together and the final showdown with the Avengers taking down interchangable bad guys is a tad underwhelming.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
My favorite characters' roles in this movie (as it really is just the characters that are the true standout in this series): 1. ANT-MAN 2. Falcon (all of his lines killed it) 3. Spider-Man 4. Black Panther 5. Iron Man 6. Bucky (I loved his scene of being recognized by the newspaper vendor) 7. Hawkeye 8. Wanda 9. Captain America 10. Black Widow 11. Vision (his casual attire did crack me up though) 12. War Machine
I hated the strobe light-like choppiness of the first action scene in Nigeria - especially in Black Widow's part.
Definitely one of my favorites in the MCU though.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
Despite a boring, but sadly nessisary first half, it actually had an emotionally impacting climax, which is rare for the MCU. So it might be one of their best of a little bit of a letdown considering the source material.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
One thing I forgot to mention: Whatever Marvel has to do, they need to get Alan Silvestri back, or at least get someone who can compose a memorable score. Henry Jackman's score here is bland at its best and downright awful/racist at its worst. I couldn't help but chuckle every time Black Panther showed up and those wind instruments kicked in. He could be a very good on-screen character, but he needs a theme that doesn't undermine and cut his legs out.

Elfman's on record saying his main contributions to the AGE OF ULTRON score are reinstating themes that Brian Tyler had dropped.

 Re: Captain America: Civil War
I Think it's unfair to say there is no good scores. IM3 rocks. Avengers theme is great. Thor 2 I love the funeral score. I think it's laughable to say GOTG is memorable. It has a great soundtrack. Any scores, I'm drawing a complete blank. I think the Avengers score is the only one that matters. Most of the films have more subtle tracks rather than big bold ones. It still works though. It's actually probably something they talked about. Could you imagine Avengers with 5 different themes throughout. That would suck

The "version" that's there now though is so bastardized that I wouldn't even call the two similar. Listening to it now, he might've kept five notes from Silvestri's version.
