Huge fan of the original, but damn, I loved this just as much as, if not more, than its predecessor.

Fright Night 2011 - A
Saw it at a screening 08/17 and it was great! It was also presented in 3D and guess what. The 3D was actually good and not just letter sequences in the beginning or end of the film. There was actually good display of depth and of scenes that popped out at you. Best 3D for me in a long time. Story was good, actors good, great lines and presentation of them. I also loved the sound/music used in the film. It was creepy and heavy when it needed to be. I'm definitely going to watch this one a second time. Hope y'all check it out.
I think this is a great example of a remake that not only updates the original but improves and makes it more enjoyable. Can't wait to hear what you guys think of the 3D. I'm gonna check it out again today.

 Re: Fright Night (2011)
It was pretty fun. Goes on too long and the Peter Vincent character has no reason to be there (which the film realizes, giving him a ridiculous and contrived back story at the last minute to justify him popping up for the finale). Colin Farrell's great.

This looks like one of the rare horror movies I might like to see - - unfortunately I can't however, because it's only showing in 3D.

Are there any other theatres in your area?

I pity people who see this in 3D. It was already dark as hell in 2D without the dimming glasses.

The 3-D was very effective.

 Re: Fright Night (2011)
The editing on this thing sucks - terrible pacing, badly staged scenes, and a very bizarre sense of structure. The 3D was also rather horrible - I'm convinced more than ever that IMAX 3D is the only way to go. "Real D" is much more gimmicky and darkens the screen considerably.
Colin Farrell and David Tennant were lots of fun, though, and I liked the atmosphere it developed in the first half-hour or so. Too bad it absolutely wastes it.

 Re: Fright Night (2011)
We have two big theaters (a 14-screen and 16-screen), and neither are offering Fright Night in 2D. First time I've seen that happen here.
I thought the 3D was fine, except for the darkness of it; if the lighting of the movie had been a bit lighter, the 3D would have been perfect.

I agree with most of this. the way (seemingly) important characters just randomly appear and disappear for large stretches of the movie is baffling. it has zero narrative flow or momentum. I didn't see it in 3D, so I can't comment on that, but I would never want to see it in that format. the movie was already terribly lit with shoddy looking photography, so I can't imagine the muddy, dank clusterfuck it would have been in 3D. there are some nice moments sprinkled throughout, and it's pretty funny in spots, but yeah... mostly a waste.

If I had paid for my ticket, I never would've seen this thing in 3D. But beggars can't be choosers.

How did Jerry get into Peter's apartment without an invitation? And how did Peter find Jerry's house for the final showdown?

I want to see it tomorrow but they only have 2 showtimes each now for 2D and 3D and the time I want to go it's the 3D version. Usually 3D makes a film even darker, so I'm not sure what to do. If this is already dark I'd hate to see it in 3D.

 Re: Fright Night (2011)
Yeah, this movie looked damn dark. Was disappointed I had to see it in 3D. The 3D was not worth the extra cost. I think it might be the worst 3D presentation I've seen in theaters. The movie itself was very good though. I'd give it a solid B.

Saw this again today. Such a hugely entertaining, well-crafted movie. I can't wait to own the Blu-ray.

Whatever, lol. My thoughts on movies don't gel with The Dark Shape's. Oh, no. I'll be tripling the Ambien tonight to get even a moment's rest.

Gunslinger wrote: Whatever, lol. My thoughts on movies don't gel with The Dark Shape's. This is going to come out dickish, and I swear I don't mean it as such, but... Your thoughts on movies don't gel with people who actually consider and separate what's quality and what isn't. You grade films like somebody who's scared to give movies lower than a B, as though you'll hurt the crew's feelings.
