 Murder at 1600
Murder at 1600 Quote: Murder at 1600 is a 1997 thriller film starring Wesley Snipes, Diane Lane, Dennis Miller, Ronny Cox, Daniel Benzali, and Alan Alda. The 1600 in the title refers to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the address of the White House. The film is based on the novel Murder in the White House by Margaret Truman, daughter of U.S. President Harry S. Truman. I was pleasently surprised with this one. A top-notch, edge-of-your-seat thriller with good performances from Wesley Snipes and Diane Lane. A-

A decent, predictable, but servicable thriller with a decent performance by Diane Lane and Wesley Snipes in good form. Nothing great, but definitely worthwhile.

Very pedestrian whodunit affair.
Wesley Snipes was OK, but this was the type of bland, thankless sidekick role Diane Lane had been pigeonholed into for a long time until A Walk on the Moon came out.

I have never even heard of it. I think Unfaithful finally gave Lane the big breakthrough.

A Walk on the Moon was not a big box office smash (it was a limited release in 1999, I think), but the film earned Lane major critical kudos (rightfully, she was terrific), which was surprising at the time because she had never been thought of as a strong actress.

Very effective thriller that has great pacing, good performances, and a serviceable story. There's nothing really new here, but it's executed very well, so the clichéd story is not even really noticed. Dennis Miller is pretty funny in a side role, and Wesley Snipes is a likable and believable protagonist. A decent thriller that delivers on what it promises, and nothing more.
