 The Karate Kid (1984)
The Karate Kid Quote: The Karate Kid is a 1984 American martial arts romantic drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and written by Robert Mark Kamen, starring Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki "Pat" Morita and Elisabeth Shue. It is a martial arts film, and an underdog story in the mold of a previous success, Avildsen's 1976 film Rocky. It was a commercial success upon release, and garnered favorable critical acclaim, earning Pat Morita an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

One of the best teen movies of the 80's. Pat Morita is great as Miyagi. This film spawned one of the best catch phrases of all time with "wax on, wax off!"

Like Termy mentioned, its one of the best movies from the 80s and probably underdog movies. Catch phrases galore and its sometimes nice to watch a martial arts movie without all the gimmacky moves
9.1/10

 Re: The Karate Kid (1984)
"Wax-on, Wax-off", this movie is great from start to finish. Pat Morita is brilliant as Miyagi in here. There have been so many underdog stories after this but it holds on its own to this day and easily better than the 2010 reboot. The student-teacher relationship has never been explored better than this movie. Ralph Macchio and Elisabeth Shue are wonderful together, I wish both of them specially later had better careers.

 Re: The Karate Kid (1984)
Watched this for the first time last night. Still holds up for the most part. The "show me wax on wax off, show me paint the fence, show me sand the floor, ..." scene was incredible and even if the rest of the movie was 80s corn, I would understand the hype around it.
The one weird thing ... Danielsan is so small that he looks to be in a complete different age range than the rest of the cast. The Cobra Kai members are all college frat bros while Elizabeth Shue is borderline pedo (I think this was still ok in the 80s though?.)
I'll give The Karate Kid an 8/10. Are the sequels worth seeing? I remember disliking the remake.
