ELVIRA'S HAUNTED HILLS (2002)

Dr. Bradley: "The village people say this castle is evil."
Elvira: "Eh, who listens to the village people anymore?"

Since it wasn't a new release anymore, I rented this movie out of curiosity. When I watched the trailer to it on the DVD I thought "Oh my god, that movie looks so stupid." I figured I'd be bored, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. This was a nice throwback/satire that was much better than the awful, boring, and unfunny horror comedy Club Dread (5/10 or C-).

The movie is all about Elvira (Cassandra Peterson). She's spitting out one-liners every time she opens her mouth, and I dug her humor. I found myself laughing or smiling at most of the things she said. I must say Elvira was very cool. You take away her and you've got nothing. But she makes this movie a joy to watch. I was never bored and the time went by fast. I really enjoyed her musical number too. It was funny and catchy.

This was the first time I'd seen Elvira in anything, and I wouldn't mind seeing another movie or so with her. It's not for everyone, but I really liked it.

Grade: 7/10 (B-)

Note(s):

-One big problem I had with the DVD for this movie is that it doesn't have subtitles or closed captioning available. I like to read the movie while I watch it, because otherwise you might miss things, especially with more quiet films (this isn't one of them though). I'm so used to doing it and it's frustrating when I'm unable to.
