An entertaining by-the-numbers thriller. A little bland, but I enjoyed Amanda Seyfried in the lead and really liked the cinematography and location. Would certainly serve better as a Blu-ray rental, but it's not bad. Seyfried does deserve better though.

6/10 (B-)

This could have been really good. Instead there are cliche cops that don't care and everything seems to be easily given to Seyfried. There were some interesting turns though as well as a good enough performance from Seyfried. The ending also was good enough. *1/2

Quite possibly the most inept thriller ever made. Does the screenwriter really believe cops would act like this? Does she also believe that Seyfried's character would be institutionalized? And why would
Spoiler: show
the killer lure her back to the hole? For all he knew she could've had a knife, a chainsaw, a grenade, a bazooka, let alone a fucking gun to shoot him with. How about just kidnapping her again and make sure she's not buried around any sharp bones. No instead he lures her and puts her sister underneath her house. And what was her sister doing all day? Was she unconscious the entire time only to wake up at the most convenient point. No, fuck you movie.

Amanda Seyfried is too good for this shit and is the only reason why it isn't both a complete bore and a complete disaster.

What did you think about Wes Bentley getting his mother some soup? :funny:

Greatest red herring in the history of cinema. :funny:

Though I did appreciate to a certain extent that
Spoiler: show
they didn't go the easy route and have Bentley be the killer. He's one of those "guilty by being cast" actors. No one ever casts him as a good guy. Neal McDonough is another one of these actors. They're always bad guys or dicks.

Instead they went with a random nobody named Jim. A decent choice in being unconventional, but also a rather boring one considering we know nothing about him and is cast with some unknown actor.

I appreciate this movie's third act. It's very crisp and unpretentious. I found myself involved.

I was glad they didn't go for a twist where the protagonist has split personalities and is also the murderer, Donald Kaufman style. This to me would have been even more obvious than Bentley being the culprit.

Yep, and that's kind of the movie's problem. There isn't one type of ending that would've worked. For something like this you either needed a twist (how about the entire Portland PD is in on it and that explains why they're so woeful at their jobs) or the twist that there is no twist. Both suck. But if what was leading up to the ending was somewhat entertaining they could've got away with it.

And why did people keep giving her cars? Is it only because she's a blonde with big tits? :funny:

Hell, I'd probably have given her my car even if she hadn't shown any intent on giving it back.

Gone

I liked Amanda Seyfriend in this, and I liked the way it was shot, the atmosphere and the story, but the ending kind of sucked. It was leading up to be this great reveal or twist, and then.. nothing; she met him, shot him, told the police she made it all up (which they just believed), and it was all over.

The police were incompetent in this film too. Every time they received a call they said they had more things to do than be concerned with this crazy girl that makes up stories, but on each occasion they were just standing around the office doing nothing. As soon as I saw Wes Bentley, I thought I had the film sussed and he was the killer. Little did I know.

I get that the "twist" was that he hid her sister underneath the house to trick Seyfriend into thinking she had been taken so as to lead her to him, but why couldn't he have just waited in her house until she arrived at 6:30am and take her too. Nobody would have known. So, it was all kind of pointless, but I was engaged throughout and I liked the style. And I don't understand him luring her back to the hole - she could have been joined with the entire Portland PD for all he knew (or at least a few guys that could have kicked his ass - which would have been enough to overcome him as she did with just a few kicks, an unbelieveable feat).

It's an average thriller for a rental, not a cinema watch. I'm glad I skipped this at the cinema. It was released here in China too, so I could have wasted money on it. I did like seeing Seyfriend's pussy silhouette in the shower, though. :hump:

I liked it. It kept my interest the entire time and I was entertained. Seyfried was solid and beautiful.
