 Keinohrhasen [Rabbits Without Ears]
Keinohrhasen Quote: Keinohrhasen (English title: Rabbits Without Ears), lit: No Ear Rabbits, is a 2007 German romantic comedy film, written, produced and directed by Til Schweiger. Co-written by Anika Decker, and starring Nora Tschirner and himself, the story of the film revolves around yellow press reporter Ludo and his ex-classmate Anna, who reconvene after years when he is sentenced to 300 hours of community service at her day-care facility.
Produced by Barefoot Films and Warner Bros., the film premiered in theaters across Germany on 20 December 2007, and became a surprise box-office hit, eventually grossing $74,000,000, mostly from its domestic run. By 20 April 2008, Keinohrhasen had reached over six million viewers, ranking it sixth on the list of the most successful German films in Germany since the beginning of the audience census in 1968. Also a critical success, the film was awarded the Goldene Leinwand, a Bogey Award, the Deutscher Comedypreis and a Bambi and received a nomination for the Audience Award at the European Film Awards 2008.
A sequel, entitled Zweiohrküken was released on 3 December 2009.

Is this any good? I loved Barfuss, but this one looks mediocre.

A-
Usually, I wouldn't be caught dead in a German comedy. However, this one became quite a phenomenon box-office and WoM-wise here and the trailers looked good too, so I gave in and saw it. Suffice to say that I was very pleasently surprised and I wouldn't be surprised if there's an US remake coming within the next couple of years.
In fact, it's a rather generic and clichéd romantic story overall, but it's executed so well with such a great humor, such a sweet romance and such a good cast and performance that you can't help, but love it. It gets very sappy towards the end and loses some humor, but overall, it's a lot of fun. It also starts off and ends with two very very funny scenes. Til Schweiger is a good lead here, but Nora Tschirner as the female lead opposite him impresses even more. It's a wonderful and surprisingly mature romcom that is just a joy to watch.
I'm sure if Libs could speak German, she'd love this movie.
