Paris qui dort [The Crazy Ray]
Paris qui dort Quote: Paris Qui Dort (literally "Paris Which Sleeps", also known as At 3:25 and The Crazy Ray) is a 1925 French science fiction comedy short film directed by René Clair. The film is about a mad doctor who uses a magic ray on citizens which causes them to freeze in strange and often embarrassing positions. People who are unaffected by the ray begin to loot Paris. The film is available on the Region 1 Criterion DVD release of another Clair film, Under the Roofs of Paris (1930).

Re: Paris qui dort [The Crazy Ray]
I thought it was quite terrible, actually. Not only does it fall prey to all the usual problems of the era - hilarious overacting, no discernible characters at all, and a difficulty in conveying the story - but it stretches a five minute concept out way too long. Once the climax hits, you're wondering why it didn't happen sooner. This sounds like I'm being too harsh on this film because it's old, but I'm not willing to give silent films a break just because they're silent. They still need to tell a story well, and this film simply didn't do that.
