2.9m previews

This probably includes early screenings but pretty solid.

From Charlie:

$7M FRI for CW, giving it $10M+ opening day. Weekend expected to be $24-26M.

It opened with a boring, predictable (though not by me) number.

The numbers says 10.8 million Friday for Civil War. 3.7 multiplier from previews to OD seems pretty solid. Could actually seen an increase today

Will this film have enough discussion and controversy to give it good legs despite the B- CinemaScore?

Would need a great multiplier to beat EEAAO for A24's biggest film. It should get #2 unless it falls off after this weekend.

CW is ok but feel like it's going to drop like a rock and not be the zeitgeist type film it could have with a bigger cast. Not bad for a $50M budget for a small indie studio.

Godzilla is holding decently. $200M still TBD.

Ghostbusters finally had a better weekend with one of the better drops. $110M would be a best case for it now.

KFP is ok but needs some 20ish% drops to get to $200M. Now #2 for the franchise though so it's all gravy at this point with an $85M budget and to be possibly at $180M by next weekend. No family films till Garfield can maybe leg it out to $200M.

Monkey Man and First Omen are long forgotten. Both under $25M despite the reviews and buzz so maybe they'll discover an audience on streaming. John Wick 1 made $43M total to start.

Dune 2 is chugging along. Looking like a $285-290M finish.

Shrek 2's re-release did decently. It could maybe push a $2M weekend with family matinees.

Monkey Man's drop is bananas. Where did all the Wickheads go?

Decent for Civil War if it can have good legs. WoM seems mixed, but will people feel like they have to see it just to take part in the discussion?

With Civil War sounding like relatively politically neutral action movie I don't think it will hold on social media that much

With Shrek 2's re-release, here's the top adjusted animated movies of all time:

1 SnowWhite $1.2B
2 101Dalmations $1.1B
3 LionKing (1994) $999M
4 Fantasia $931M
5 JungleBook (1967) $826M

6 SleepingBeauty $815M
7 Shrek2 $797M
8 Pinocchio $756M
9 Incredibles2 $743M
10 Bambi $714M

Shrek should be at about $798M equivalent by the end of the weekend so adjusted will likely be at $800Mish from this re-release. Along with The Lion King, and Incredibles 2, 1 of the only 3 animated films to now adjust to $700M+ and managing to be the only films post 1960s to reach the early Disney animated movies.

If they wanted it to be a true water cooler moment they should've had the sides of the fictitious civil war make sense. Texas and California together? Why not just have it be Republican vs Democrat states. Even have a Trump look a like figure be the cause of it or whatever. Fully lean into real modern politics instead of a made-up scenario that doesn't resonate with what's happening nowadays.

Well the real civil war will be between followers of Donny Jr and followers of Ivanka, but that's already being handled on House Of The Dragon.

$25.7M opening. Will need a 3x multiplier to beat Everything Everywhere as highest grossing a24 film. Probably not gonna happen, but the studio can still sell this is a win for their first big budgeter. At least it didn't bomb like Beau Is Afraid.

Probably will have a bad drop next weekend with losing premium screens but I think it's a pretty solid number. Idk what it'll take for A24 to get a blockbuster opening buy hoping they are able to more bigger budget stuff.

That's pretty solid for this genre

Great OW for CW. Won't hold on very long though.

GvsK needs a 3.72X multiplier to get to $200M. A bit of a stretch but has two slower weekends.

Ghostbusters having some late legs. PTA drop is only 26.2%.

Dune needs a 7.46X multiplier to get to $300M. $290M total will still be great for it.

Great recovery by KFP4. It's Sat increase was the best of its run so far. 22.6% PTA drop. 5.78X multiplier to get to $200M which isn't impossible and playing as a family film could help it get there.

Looks like GxK and Dune 2 will just fall short of key milestones - $190m and $290m respectively. Still great though.

KPF4 hitting $190-$200m is quite the achievement.

Spider-Man rerelease yesterday did 680k in 466 theaters (not sure how true that is, seemed to play at a lot of theaters near me). I went last night and it was really cool to see again in theaters. The tickets were $5 so not a bad result, will be interesting to see how the rest do.

KFP4 looking like a strong week ahead for it.

Monday $341,855 -19.7% $174,062,580. PTA down only 12%.

Could pull $4M this weekend for just under $180M by the end of the weekend.

No bad. I was wondering if it could get +30m.

Civil War is surely going to drop heavily in week 2. WOM can't be positive let alone infectious. It is a very mild film in terms of tone and controversial elements.

Well, whether or not that’s true, you didn’t provide any substantial evidence or reason, and I have no reason to credit you for it.

I doubt it will play like a typical action movie. It’s demographics, content, and subject matter are different. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood dropped over 50%, but it also was more hyped. Eagle Eye played more like a thriller than an action movie. Neither are great comparisons though. I could try to think of more examples, but I don’t think there are too many good ones. Black Hawk Down etc. were released long ago, plus, the similarities are more superficial since this movie is arguably more similar to the director’s other films in many ways.

#1 again, actually dropped pretty decently considering the mainstream opinion.
