Feels like the Peanuts movie to me. Really well known franchise that people will be interested, but not in enormous numbers, to see a new animated film.

45/130

I don't wanna see Garfield as an adorable kitten. I thought the appeal of Garfield was that he was an asshole cat. Or can todays kids not handle that?

200 million+ breakout honestly. It looks perfect for Mario Bros audience, Illumination must wish they were in on this. Pratt strikes again.

The Memorial Weekend for a launch is pretty ambitious of the studio to put a Garfield movie.

Planet of the Apes and Furiosa opening then too. Going to be a big weekend but Garfield will just print $$$.

I think the viral cats and dogs element here makes me think its going to be big on socials. They want to create a Barbie type event here.

Releasing the trailer on a MONDAY was very smart as well considering the character's memes related to Mondays.

Today's parents can't. But the trailer does go on to show him as a selfish, lazy cat.

It's so 2023, though. Garfield had to have a black sidekick. Wouldn't be "fair" otherwise, lol.

Overall it looks OK. But not as good as the live-action Bill Murray ones. Though I'm not sure those hold any sway these days. This new movie looks like the jump that was made from the Jim Carrey Grinch to the animated Grinch. So it'll probably do well.

Chris Pratt, really?! Lol. Nothing against him, just feels like people are manifesting the memes.

Yes, it does give off the Grinch 2000 to Grinch 2018 vibes.

I think it will do relatively well. $120-$150m perhaps.

I've never seen the Bill Murray films, they do seem forgotten.

New trailer:

It does feel like it could pull off a broader than just family audience type run. Giving a few Shrek vibes and coming off as more of an adventure movie.

If the quality is there could pull $200M+. Seems like the Garfield movie they should have made years ago and yes surprised this isn't Illumination but clearly they are following that playbook.

60/185, would pass 200 if Inside Out wasn’t releasing in that June spot

Not really feeling that trailer. Feels like they might have might have missed on Jon which was a key to making adults watch this. I keep forgetting this isn't Illumination, they would've killed with this concept for sure.

Do any other males have voices other than Chris Pratt? I mean damn, he’s Mario, Emmett (Lego Movie), Garfield, and older bro in Pixar’s Onward.

Yea I think Chris Parnell (Jerry’s voice from Rick and Morty) would have been perfect for Jon.

Peanuts is a good example. Can't see it breaking out much more than that.

Big difference though is Peanuts launched in first week of November which can have sleepy family film openings that leg it out to Thanksgiving and then the holidays.

Garfield is opening Memorial Weekend. Feels like that's going to supercharge it a bit.
