One of the most important films Warner Bros. has ever produced. Cast coming shortly.

just a huge, massive range for how this could go. I could see anything from $80m to $175m opening weekend range depending on how it plays. I think they need two fully embrace generation z and make a modern, but traditional, Superman film. Forget the old school nostalgia. 9 out of 10 fail.

There are a few actors that would do well in the role, but commercial, Jacob Elordi has to be the most logical choice since a young Josh Hartnett was aggressively pursued for the role 20 years ago. Elordi's got a massive Gen Z following and would be a real difference maker with young crowd buzz.

For someone with a massive gen z following I’ve never heard of him lol

I don’t see how this does more than like 125m ow. Superhero fatigue is real

I think liberal college students living in major cities watch Euphoria lol.

But I guess that is the prime moviegoing audience

The problem with this movie is anyone they cast will pale in comparison to Henry Cavill. Jacob Elordi is like a 4/10 next to Cavill.

DCEU: great casting, wonderful moments sprinkled along horrible execution.

Though Batman came back so Superman can too. I’d love a villain not seen done multiple times in the last 50 years. Can we get Brainiac or Bizarro. We don’t need another introduction

By the time this comes out I feel like people are really gonna be blase with superhero movies.

I think this is gonna do Man of Steel #s... lol but who knows, Gunn's last 2 films have been excellent there's that

This. Everyone I've talked to about this movie is quick to mention how they're unhappy that Cavill isn't reprising the role. It just doesn't matter who they cast because Cavill has defined the role for the past ten years. It'd be like Marvel recasting Downey Jr. for an Iron Man 4 that was being released this year or something. (Or recasting Holland in this Spidey 4 I'm seeing rumored for June 27th, 2025?)

It can be a 95% RT score of a film, but getting a large audience out for the opening week is going to be a problem of interest, a problem that can't really be solved. It's going to require audiences who see it spreading strong WOM to convince a lot of people I think.

And yes, this is indeed a highly important film for WB/DC. Right now, I expect a Batman situation in not really raising the bar, but still doing enough to be considered a success. It did well for sure, but Batman has a higher ceiling than The Batman was able to reach.

This will be an unpopular opinion but Cavill was good at Superman but not nearly the level of RDJ's impact of Iron Man IMO. That pretty much anchored the MCU's momentum over a decade.

Hypothetically, if Cavill was at that level, he should have been able to anchor DC but that didn't happen. Not to blame him as he could have hypothetically done it with a Kevin Feige type person at DC and the poor quality movies he kept appearing in didn't help due to issues outside of his own.

I will point out, the Superman from 2006 is only 15% off from Cavill's Man of Steel 2013 in terms of adjusted grosses. I don't think those are dramatically different enough that tells me someone else can't fill in that role and do well in it.

The key is to bring something fresh that hasn't been done before. Joaquin's Joker vs Jack vs Heath's. 3 iconic performances from 3 very different actors.

He has a big fan base but you have Batman, Wonder Woman, Joker, Aquaman movies that were bigger box office wise. It definitely feels he got the short end of the stick from the DC/WB mess.

I don't see how that can be an unpopular opinion. It's just a fact.

Sure, if looking at total impact, but when looking at the dceu relative to the MCU I think superman and Cavill are like Iron Man and RDJ. Cavill s superman films haven't reached their potential, he he has grown on people and a Supes 2 film with him is exactly what I see people turning up for now. But also 2025 is still 2 years away, so much can change, people have an ability to move on if they want to, and a new generation will not have an affinity for Cavill. And I understand they want to move and start over, but the world at thing they can actually do, is preplaning a whole new universe and getting ahead of themselves without even the first film having come out. Many universes have failed this way, they should just take the whole release thing one film at a time and sure in the background they can work on more productions. Anyway I agree with the point that a Cavill superman will do better than a new look one.

Cavill as Super was well received in some horrendous films, but I think the prolonged back and fourth of "is he in or out" actually increased demand for him to return. But no way Cavill Supes is like RDJ Iron Man or Bale Batman.

Cavill in Fallout > Cavill as Superman. That moustache was supreme and he was even more of a badass. I think you can cast anyone as Superman and the result will be similiar, but throwing a replacement level actor in that MI6 role would have significantly hurt the movie.

Fast XX needs Cavill. So does Transformers. He could be the new franchise viagra since The Rock only stars in his own franchises now (with blackjack and hookers.)

Well. They nailed the casting of Superman and Lois.

The casting seems fine. Just annoyed Henry couldn't have gotten one last damn hurrah at least but whatever. If this ends up as good as TSS and Guardians 3 sure.

If everything goes well and hype is there as long as this opens near The Batman then that would be good.

It's good they chose unknowns. Something fresh. Judge this movie on its merits and not with any lingering smell of past properties. I actually look forward to it.

I still think they should have waited atleast 5 years to reboot dc. Superhero fatigue is real and this will come out at the height of it.

Whether it’s animosity, fatigue, or hostility there’s something worse than nonchalance happening right now between audiences and the DCEU. I’d also argue that the downward slope past the Superhero Movie Genre mountain peak is getting steeper. A Superman movie in 2025 seems too soon.

Without seeing shit and thinking Gunn will deliver a good movie I think it'll do like 130/360.

377m International
668m Worldwide

 I’ll take those numbers …IF Superman Legacy budget isn’t 200m +

I think it is extremely concept-dependent right now. For example, I think a Cavill vs. Rock's Black Adam Superman would have done The Batman numbers if were any good. The Flash was just made way too late, needed to be a summer 2019 release. I think there is a market for a "proper, well-done" Superman, but we'll see if thats what Gunn delivers.

I would have gone with Elordi myself due to his social media presence. DC would have been number 2, but he's a great fit as is RB.

Nothing should've been made after Batman v Superman. The DCEU died after it's opening weekend (even if Suicide Squad still made an inexplicable amount of money). Snyder should have been fired that Sunday night and Justice League should've been iced. But the WB execs really wanted those bonuses. Can't say I blame them, but I think most of them don't have a job any more. Hope it was worth it.

Well the whole thing was wrong, they should have had MOS2 and Batman, even WW before BVS. I don’t think you can really blame singer unless you hate his style and direction. WB needed money amd wanted to out Marvel Marvel, and what we already know is the standalones after the mashup are weaker

Snyder? I think audiences made it clear they hated his style and direction. They’ve made it clear since 300. And it’s not like the universe started off on the best foot. MOS’s reception was lukewarm and it underperformed.

That saying with the way superhero movies are trending if Legacy matches MOS’s box office WB might see that as a win (depending on the budget).
