Mortal Kombat Predictions
This is the next theatrical release with a chance a big business. The trailers have been well received and people are nostalgic for the original. In non Covid times I’d say 40m+, but even with Covid I think it can have the second biggest pandemic opening with 18m.

Re: Mortal Kombat Predictions
This definitely feels like the second most hyped film of the year after Godzilla Vs. Kong and in normal times I could have easily seen it opening to $30-$40M, especially after seeing how GVK has been peforming so far.
I don't see why it can't atleast hit high teens if not $20M+,but it always felt like the type of film that would have been massively frontloaded anyways no matter when or where it opened.

Re: Mortal Kombat Predictions
I can see it opening lesser than GvK. I believe GvK did well because a lot of families can enjoy this movie without knowing other movies. And while that would also be the case for MK as well as its a reboot. A majority of its fanbase comes from online gaming and nostalgia which in this case might not translate to theatrical business but better than expected home media business.
I still think it will be good for $15m-$20m opening.

Re: Mortal Kombat Predictions
I think people want cheesy escapism right now so this is going to dramatically overperform.

Re: Mortal Kombat Predictions
With a lot of people showing up for GvK I expect more people to feel comfortable going to the theater moving forward. I think over $18m seems doable.

Re: Mortal Kombat Predictions
Again what you call cheesy might not be true for everyone. Regardless it has good enough fanbase and nostalgia to pull $20m OW but I don't expect it to surprise and open to say $30M.

Re: Mortal Kombat Predictions
I think the spacing between these “blockbusters” will also help them.

Re: Mortal Kombat Predictions
It will certainly help having the trailer with GvK. I don't know about OW but a 40-50 Million total seems about right.
