March 5-7 predictions
Could this be a turning point for pandemic box office?
I'm gonna go with...
Raya - 18 Chaos Walking - 3.5
With NY opening I think Raya will end up being the biggest pandemic opening. Tom and Jerry will probably drop less than 45% as a secondary option if Raya is full because of audience capacity

I honestly feel like Raya has less appeal than Tom & Jerry. But with NY theaters opening it should see a bigger opening.

Re: March 5-7 predictions
Raya definitely has less appeal than a typical Disney animation release, reminds me of Big Hero 6, but that still opened to 56m off the brand name. Unless it gets horrible reviews I don’t see how Raya is less appealing.

Re: March 5-7 predictions
I agree with others Raya does not seem very appealing from its trailer but I fully expect the reviews to be great and with NY theaters opening we can finally see a big rush of audience to theaters. I will go with $20m weekend

Re: March 5-7 predictions
Raya defnitely doesn't look as appealing from the trailers as Tom and Jerry did, but unlike that movie it has the Disney push behind it which means more theatres on its side.
I'm thinking of a $15-$20M opening for it and low single digits for Chaos Walking.

How did Tom and Jerry look appealing lol? It looked like typical live action cg hybrid garbage in the vein of the Smurfs.

That's appealing because it's more accessible to parents that have nostalgic ties to the property. They're more willing to take their kids to those than say a film that looks more and more like a Netflix weekly animation release. With the exception of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Garfield, Smurfs, Sonic, Scooby Doo, even Space Jam and The Peanuts movies have done very well in that niche. Hell even Yogi Bear, Inspector Gadget did well because of it. It's a cross blend film, and Tom and Jerry looks more unique because of it.

Re: March 5-7 predictions
Weird I thought Raya will easily get in more theaters than T&J but it's not surprising given the reports from Japan, looks like Disney is trying to push D+ very hard instead of theaters.

Re: March 5-7 predictions
Raya is one of the rare Disney releases praised by critics but doesn't do much for me. My son shrugged his shoulders at the trailer. I can still 20m for it, though.
