Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
I thought Fast and Furious overreacted by pushing to 2021 but it was a smart move. I’m more bullish on Mulan and Tenets prospects in the long term (despite low opening weekends). Something will occur that has never happened before in the modern boxoffice. Two big budget features will have ZERO competition during the foreseeable future.

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
Yeah if both Tenet and Mulan actually open I could see it having a weak opening but miniscule drops for months so we'll see. The Pandemic doesn't look close to being over though so meh

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
If Bad Boys wins the year, Smith will be back on top with the year's biggest film after ID4 and MIB in 96/97.
Doesn't look like box office will start until Mid Aug at best. Flu season starts in the fall so Nov/Dec may be a writeoff if there's only 2.5-3 months of box office. Can't see anything doing $200 m + at this point though the global box office will be interesting. Canada box office may be a huge chunk of domestic business for the rest of the year.

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
Whatever opens in August may be able to leg it for the rest of the year (staying in theaters for 5-6 months) - perhaps $200m could still be reached by either Tenet or Mulan (or Wonder Woman in October).

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
The box office will open in Singapore from July 13. Here are the safety precautions : Quote: These include a 1m social distancing seat configuration. Up to five patrons, comprising friends and family, can sit together without the 1m distancing requirement, but different groups of patrons have to observe it.
Also, there will be a limit of 50 patrons per cinema hall. Masks will be mandatory at all times, including inside the hall, except when consuming food and drink, according to the statement. https://www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/ ... n=addtoany

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/featu ... an-1302238Tenet needs $400m to break even. Would have been more if the marketing budget was bigger.

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
I think with OS markets opening this should happen. They should really think of releasing it in OS theaters first.

I guess De Niro will go back to making sell out movies the rest of his life. He’s claiming COVID wiped him out.

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
I would pay $50 to buy Tenet right now. That would set a horrible precedent and we’d never get a fair price for vod again, but I don’t care, the initial rush would be worth it. I don’t wanna wait until July 2021.

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
I’m hoping these delays are giving editors and writers more time to perfect movies and scripts. I expect 2021/2022 films and tv shows will have great, fully realized, scripts and plots.

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
Hollywood, Disney especially, got insanely lucky that it was 2019 and not 2020 that had the huge concentration of tentpoles. Can you imagine having to play around with Avengers, Toy Story 4, Star Wars, The Lion King etc etc like this? The biggest film this year was Wonder Woman 1984 and that wasn't even a guaranteed $1B movie. In retrospect, despite how much shit the final season was given, it was also kind of a blessing that Game of Thrones wrapped things up in 2019. If they had done a couple more seasons they may have had to delay production and we wouldn't be getting the last one until like 2022. Most major entertainment properties from the 2010s decade kind of wrapped up in 2019 and then bam, 2020 is like wiping the slate clean culturally, politically, economically. Interesting times.

Re: Box office in the time of coronavirus
In this hypothetical scenario, imagine if Disney plus pushed up their US launch and Avengers premiered exclusively on Disney Plus. They would have 80 million+ US subscribers instantly to beat Netflix out of the gate.
