Re: COVID-19 and box office
I know everyone is down on how the US is treating this but France is literally 5x worse right now per their population, they just posted another over 1,100 day on a 67 million population. I think the US will probably be somewhere in the middle in terms of who got it the worst. Not kissing on the cheek to say hello helps a lot I think.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
An expert in Israel estimates that 38% of the Ultra-Orthodox city of Bnei Brak, or 74,000 people, are infected. Bnei Brak has reported just over 1,000 cases and Israel has reported over 7,500. His estimates are based on test data. Iraq’s numbers are apparently completely fake. Officials with access to testing data say there are 3,000 to 9,000 confirmed cases in the country, with 2,000 alone in eastern Baghdad. The government has reported under 1,000 cases. Who knows how many other countries are reporting fake data. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-iraq/iraq-has-confirmed-thousands-more-covid-19-cases-than-reported-medics-say-idUSKBN21K2GQ?feedType=mktg&feedName=worldNews&WT.mc_id=Partner-Google

A former University president says that if there's no vaccine by July (lol) that college football probably won't happen this year.

They have cancelled Wimbledon which happens in July end-early August week so I don't think there will be a way to recover from this before.

This is a time where I wish the virtual reality worlds portrayed by Snow Crash and Ready Player One were a reality today. We're still at least several years away. 16K resolution will allow for the eye to perceive images with 4K acuity at the close ranges of VR.
8K is still 2 yrs from going mainstream and 16K probably 5 yrs after that.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
The article brings up the likelihood that the virus first got here in February which would make sense. I’m still going to take every precaution possible because I have the wonderful combo of asthma and diabetes, but there was a bug that went around in February. For some people it was a stomach bug. For my family it was something like a cold with an annoying cough that wouldn’t go away for two weeks. Makes me wonder if we got a mild version of it or if our bodies were lucky enough to tolerate enough so that it was a mild version.

Can you really fault them for not wasting much needed resources on autopsy testing? It'll be refigured at a later time. In some brighter news 34k Saturday to 25k Sunday is pretty great. Cases and deaths might drop again today.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
Italy with their lowest new cases since March 13th, in a couple weeks they will probably be looking fantastic. But US will most likely have a really bad day in deaths.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
Yep Italy and Spain seem to have reached their peak and are both starting to drop, though the deaths are juuuuuuuuuuuust past the peak. US looks like it MIGHT be reaching its peak soon, but deaths are going to be following behind. So I'd say this weekend will be the peak for cases, next weekend for deaths. With the descent following.

Yes that sounds right. Never thought I’d hear talk of second derivatives in everyday conversation. Folks are analyzing rates of acceleration and even rates of rates (3rd derivative).

Illinois just broke its 24hour record new cases and deaths... where u getting this from? The US isn't peaking anytime soon.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
That’s the thing with the US, we didn’t close down all at once. So we’ll be like European countries having different peaks except in our states. Oregon and California are peaking and NY is starting to, but other states won’t peak for a while.

A lot of states won't peak yet because they're lagging behind, but it won't change the curve of the country because it won't match the cases in NY.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
The testing of hydrochloroquine seems to communicate it’s effective at keeping the virus from getting too severe, but does little to none to help those in intensive care. But it seems a good chance it could significantly reduce the hospitalization rate if people were given it right when they tested positive.
