Right now I'm feeling this won't get the R-rated record. I'm gonna go with around 109m right now, which is still ridiculous. Let's see how audience reception is.

Even though tracking has it in the 80s, I'm expecting it to tip over $100m.

That's not true. According to Excel it was supposed to do $200m but it will end up with "only" $90m. The potential was "there" but this is going to end up short. WWW anyone?

?? Are people expecting another Aurora? Cause the Joker wasn’t in that movie.

The “Joker is the best movie of all time” hype wore off pretty quick, but I still think people will be really into this. $110M and a top 3 ranking in the DCU.

Unlike Logan, this is a standalone movie with a popular comic book character but no baggage of past Batman movies (though still with the trappings of Joker the character). It being provocative and immersed in the horror/serial killer genre are why I think it will sell better than Logan.

All this "character study" talk is a little too much, IMO. The monologue and situations presented in the trailer are too overt and external to be a serious character study. I see this as a cool provocative exploitation movie.

Joker - $109m

OK now I'm reading about all the extra security major cities are using for this movie, despite no actual threats being present. I think this could help though. It makes the movie feel even more Dangerous.

Previews start at 4pm- so I'd say $14M, $33M, $37M, $27M for a $111M weekend.

Let's just roll all of Thursday into Friday already. Next thing you know it'll be 1PM. Enough already.

Films have been opening here on Thursday for decades. The US may as well follow suit.

If Joker fails to top $100M than I definitely think the shooting controversy is to blame. Some people just aren't willing to take any chances and might decide to hold off seeing it OW.

I get that Aurora is still a sensitive subject, but we risk being victims of a shooting literally every time we leave the house.

Unlike Logan this is a MUCH popular character so Logan needed all the help with Stewart in the cast. And Joker is definitely selling on its Batman connections anyways. I don't think I can call a movie provocative and immersed in serial killer genre before I see it even when I know that it is from trailers. Its just how Joker's character is written whereas Logan wasn't exactly always written the way the movie portrayed it (or maybe it was in recent comics, I am not sure).

All we know for now that reviews are good not great and mostly everyone is praising Phoenix's performance all these factors really remind me of the scenario of Logan (from what I remember most critics said Jackman and Stewart should be nominated).

The key difference is that this is an introduction movie and that was a farewell movie but other than that I see both movies on the same ground. The tracking numbers are also close for both these movies.
