Keep in mind if it does 150m it's still the biggest horror sequel...Ever? At least in my memory. Well, Halloween earned slightly more last year.

Wow down $6M from the late-night estimate - how the fuck did that happen? You'd figure the Friday night walkup crowd would be huge.
With a $37M opening day it will be lucky to hit $90M on the weekend and $200M total. I'll predict $85M/$190M. Stunning really.
I figured that being a major franchise that will definitively end on part 2 would be a huge hook to bring back everyone that saw the first movie. And the high quality trailer seemed to point us in this direction as well. But the warning signs were there over the last few weeks. And by the time It opened, people are mostly just talking about the NFL and the other killer clown movie. Reminds me of Detective Pikachu's underperformance in that way.
We might be in for a rough fall. If It is this vulnerable, then the #NotJoker / #NotFrozen / #NotStarWars effect could fell everything else in its path.

I called it all the way back when they were cast, but Chastain and McAvoy were a huge waste of money too. You didn't need Stars for this movie and they obviously added nothing to the box office.
Though they will (probably) increase my own enjoyment of the film. If only that were the only metric that mattered!

Yeah it looks like it was really pre-sales heavy just like TLK back in July, although the fact that night business was that weak for this is quite surprising considering most horror films play a lot better in that time frame.

The preview ratio was so high and the estimate dropped because it’s obviously frontloaded as hell.

I think what happened here is that the first IT was a perfect storm of it being nostalgic yet still seeming fresh, and the kids aspect is by far the most iconic. The marketing for this was solid but it made it seem like more of the same, and there wasn't a memeable moment in the trailer like Pennywise in the sewers with the paper boat.
