August 2-4 predictions
Hobbs and Shaw - 4,200
Not sure how wide but The Farewell will be expanding.
I'm thinking Hobbs and Shaw will open with around 75m. Not feeling a huuuge breakout even though I think the movie looks ridiculously fun.

Re: August 2-4 predictions
$75M sounds right, which will have people freaking out since it'd be the lowest for the franchise in a decade, but this will be the first movie since Tokyo Drift to open in the summer, so it'll have summer weekdays for a couple weeks to help with legs - I think it ends up being the leggiest movie in the franchise since the original.
Assuming it expands to 800-1000 theaters, I think The Farewell does around $3 million. I hope it continues to benefit from the total lack of competition. The lack of art house breakouts this year has been a total bummer.

$70/$180M has always been its destiny. I think there is potential for strong enough legs to get over $200M though.

Yeesh. I was thinking Hobbs and Shaw would do 90m+ earlier this year but I'm sensing it'll do mediocre at best here. Would be a horrible way to close out blockbusters for the summer if this disappoints.

Yeah the way this year is going so far... I wouldn't be shocked if H&S barely opens to $50 mil.

Another thing that's not helping H&S is Lion King is staying on Imax at a lot of theaters.

Looks like Farewell is only in 400ish theaters this weekend. Guess it's smart to do a slow rollout and maybe go widerr later this month.

Hollywood is having some weak ass summer dailies. Doubt it goes over $18M for weekend.

Actually, OUATIH is getting all kinds of love this evening about its very strong hold. So much for it being front loaded. Deadline is saying 20-23 for the weekend. It could be up around 80 million by Sunday night.
Very glad to see an interesting film for adults like this do well. Fantastic news.
