Quite the drop for SLOP2 from the first.

Less than Godzilla doesn't seem great for Dark Phoenix. $60m is definitely out, thinking it lands around $45m.

Expected drop for SLOP2, $60-65m still within reach.

DL says $47M for Pets and $36M for Dark Phoenix.

:hahaha:

Hopefully we get some good holds in Flop City.

Usually shitty openers don't lead to great drops for holdovers. People will just stay away from the theater.

They’re projecting $46M off a $17M Friday but that doesn’t seem right. Still a lot of schools open, enough for a 3X multiplier at least. We will see.

A comparison of franchise peaks vs. lows:

X-Men: 322m (X3 adjusted) vs. 80m (likely end total for DP right now) = 75% loss
Spider-Man: 626m (SM1 adjusted) vs. 219m (ASM2 adjuste) = 65% loss
Batman: 669m (TDK adjusted) vs. 210m (B&R adjusted) = 69% loss

So DP will likely be a worse performer than ASM2 and B&R. And frankly, the 80m projection I have is maybe optimistic and it could do sub-75m which would mean almost a 78% loss

Though DP is being dumped by Disney unlike the others.

Under $50m would be bad for SLOP2. it has a huge theater count and cute dogs, after all.

Die Pets 2, die!

Finally a well deserved disappointment for Unilluminating Entertainment.

And to think we had Incredibles 2 and JW2 open back to back 1 yrar ago lol... these openers [DP, Pets, MIB, Shaft] OW together won't even be more than Incredibles 2 OW.

Doubt these stick but :|

Quote:
Legendary/Warner Bros’ Godzilla: King of the Monsters looks like $4M in its second Friday, -79%. That’s aimed at a second downer of a weekend of $14.5M, off 69%, with a running total by Sunday of $77.5M.

Paramount’s Rocketman is seeing $3M today, -67%, for a second weekend of $11M, -57% and a 10-day total of $47.5M.

Universal/Blumhouse’s Ma is seeing $2M today, -72%, for a three-day total of $7M, -61%, and a 10-day of $31.9M.

I think MIBI will do... fine? I think even a $35 mil OW for it would be pretty good! Considering!

Shaft will probably open under $15 mil.

But then we get Toy Story, Annabelle, Yesterday, Spider-Man, a break, then LION KING, Hollywood, Hobbs/Shaw, then... nothing... until It 2. From then on it's not too bad!

I'm still waiting for the Lion King trailer that showcases Beyonce singing. Lock up the top spot for 2019.

Really good Thursday for Aladdin. 26% week to week. The Thursday hold also means openers and screen losses won’t hurt it too much. Looking promising for this weekend.

Pets was a gimmick that got the attention of pet lovers. That doesn’t necessarily translate into loyalty for the movies though. Now the sequel no longer stands out.

Has been there a big increase in movie/TV streaming over the last 6 months? Maybe we've reached a tipping point where most people will only go to the theatre about once a month and only for a mega movie (aka Disney's release strategy).

Yeah you could argue it’s just Disney, but the mega event films keep taking a larger share of the annual BO.
