I see the competition is week in August other than Hobbs but that # seems too high along with that opening number even though I'll be watching it probably 2x.

I already have a Leo’s highest opener club, but that was before the first trailer which didn’t scream event, must-see picture. Should still do well though, its Leo’s first movie since he won the oscar after all.

If Tarantino will get his huge opening next time if he sticks to his ten film plan. Any final film by him will be a big deal, but I think Kill Bill 3 gets him close to $100M opening.

Count me in. Hasn't had a "bomb" since 2011 and technically that only cost $35 mil. Technically I'd say only Body of Lies was a bomb. Looked terrible, and was so very generic.

Early reviews are some of the best of Tarantino's career, with big raves for Leo and especially Brad. I'm in. $190 million total. Might up to $200+ million if it gets a big jury prize at the end of Cannes.

Why would it gross lower than Django. In every sense this is bigger. With the reviews being this glowing I could see it double basterds OW and total. something like 75/240 run.

Its an event film. And event films keep getting bigger. QT's following only continues to grow, this has considerable star power + this looks far more accessible than The Hateful Eight. So $150m is low end.

I do not think this looks too accessible. Have you seen the fake retro Italian movie posters? Only nerds like Tarantino will get those. I think not even DiCaprio will be able to turn this into a hit.

Leo took a big pay cut for this. It seems the studio never envisioned this as a big opener.

The new trailer makes it look like it's going to have a real dark side that they're not trying to market.

I agree. In our current cultural climate, Tarantino has limited appeal. In previous decades it was for his use of violence, on our current decade it is that plus increased sensitivity.

I think 200m+ is too high is a big ask but 150-175m is certainly achievable.

Plus it has super strong reviews off the gate. Why is it 2nd tier?
