Avengers avoided a 55% drop, luckily. Avatar WW might still be in play.

Best case scenario seems like around 860m for Endgame [3x multiplier from this weekend, probably not happening]

At this point it'll likely barely pass it.

Legs have not been kind. Not that you'll regret this post... but it's still very possible it misses Avatar.

It should have a decent hold next week with Memorial Day. I think it will pass Avatar and then some.

Holy crap John Wick made $92m international?! That's more than the total of the last film.

We'll definitely get Part 4 now won't we? Maybe this will turn into the new Fast & Furious.

Fantastic opening for Wick and very much deserved IMO. No idea what the budget was, but it couldn't have cost that much. It's just impressive to see how far this franchise has come in terms of mainstream appeal and success. There will definitely be another one, but I can't help but wonder just how much room is left for this franchise to grow. I wish Avengers held a bit better, but it is what it at this point. The movie has already made a ton of fucking money and anything from here on out is just icing on the cake. It looks like DP is going to finish with a similar total as Shazam, although I don't think that's great news considering it was a much more costly film. The OS numbers haven't been too hot either.

I am sure BOM made a mistake. based on breakdown of OS markets no way it grossed 92m

International debuts for John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum this weekend included:
U.K. - $4.6M
Russia - $3.8M

Australia - $2.8M
Mexico - $2.1M
Thailand - $1.9M
Taiwan - $1.9M
Italy - $1.7M
Philippines - $1.7M
Brazil - $1.3M
Hong Kong - $1.3M

$92 mil is the worldwide total.

Post subject:  Re: Weekend Estimates

BOM has fixed the numbers as well. At least it went up with actuals to 93.3m WW. But it was really incompetent on BOM's part to get it so wrong. That site has gone to dogs since Gray sold it to IMDB.

Is it me or has the quality of the articles they post also fallen off a cliff sine the changeover in ownership? I used to anticipate their weekend recaps, they were so well-written and full of insights. They would often comment on the ad campaigns and marketing strategies and provide all kinds of useful info like audience breakdowns and Cinemascores. I even liked the little quips they'd put at the start, like "It's a pirate's life for....everybody" at the start of their Dead Man's Chest breaks the OW record article. It felt like they actually cared but ever since they got rid of those writers the articles are full of typos and grammatical mistakes and are just poorly written in general and useless in terms of providing any analysis.

Bit of a late complaint for that, isn't it?

The articles follow a formula now. It's boring. I haven't read them for years.

Just noticed how A Dog’s Journey flopped.

I wonder if anything could pull a Armageddon/Bug’s Life/Tombstone, where the movie performs better than a Very Similar film that came out earlier in the year.

They released ADJ to close to whatever that other dog film was.

Definitely must be a typo.

The above site is estimating August which makes sense.

Compared to what I thought before, Endgame's frontloading ironically weakens the case that big openers drop big. If the good legs for many big openers were because of spillover, it would be one thing. But Avengers, Black Panther, Jurassic World, Spider-Man, and The Phantom Menace appear to have held well because they were not sequels, or had a long wait in the case of TPM. You might thing big drops for big movies means that it is caused by the opening, but correlation doesn't prove causation. Rather big openers seem to drop because they are the type of movies to drop (action-fantasy-sci-fi franchise movies and sequels).

The holds for franchises with a reboot or break make me wonder if the short wait from IW made Endgame more frontloaded. Matrix Revolutions was also very frontloaded after a short wait.

Post subject:  Re: Weekend Estimates

Problem is how saturated endgame release was. It took over 60-70% of the screens(24-28K). So it ran through audience lot fast that its legs will be short. Dont forget Endgame beat every avengers movie adjusted as well. So its not as if it lost audience. Revolutions lost significant % of audience from Reloaded and so its not a good comparison.

Post subject:  Re: Weekend Estimates

Despite the saturation, it seems to have had more spillover than IW based on the Monday drop. The drop was similar over the next couple weeks.
