Toy Story 4 will open under 60m before it opens to 200m.

Frozen and Avatar are the only ones with a realistic shot.

Also, Star Wars is never seeing $200m OW again. That ship has sailed, as commanded by Kathleen Kennedy and her Komissars.

The general public must never be confused with certain whiny parts of the internet/reddit. If the reviews are strong, again, it will open over $200 million OW.

I have loved Star Wars since I was 4 years old and unlike the dark corners of Reddit I understand that commercial success for these films is integral to future instalments and spin offs, so I'd be ok with the compromise between Kathleen's questionable creative decisions and successful trilogy that leads to more interesting films....

but I think the brand is severely damaged after the last two films. It's not the mega event it once was. I hope to be proven wrong.

I still give it to Toy Story 4. Needs about a 9% bump on TI2 to get there. It's literally the only franchise that has consistently increased domestically, and been a critical darling for nearly 25 years now.

Also TLK isn't really part of a franchise. So it doesn't really count. But as a film I'd say it's very likely too.

Wouldn't that kind of bump have happened with Toy Story 3? I don't think it's in the franchise, too many sequels at this point.

Well if we're talking franchises, it's the only real one that has any type of chance. Each film has about an 11% increase in total over the last adjusted, Which would put Toy Story 4 at about 535 million, and using BATB that would put it around 188 opening. I think if the marketing really steps up over the next two months it could definitely sway higher and reach the point. If not it'll be SW, then who knows.

It would have been Spiderman if not for the Tuesday opening. That'll easily see the Iron Man 3 type bump now.

Nah. Avatar is not loved or anticipated on any level like Avengers and Star Wars. And Frozen only appeals to girls.

Frozen the billion dollar highest grossing film of 2013 over the likes of IRON MAN 3 WW would never have achieved it's success if it 'only' solely appealed to girls. A $200 million opening is only unlikely because, personally, I can't see any animated film achieving that (though if one could prove me wrong it's Frozen 2).

Girls saw it again and again and again and again. It only appealed to girls. It cannot get a $200m OW. Impossible.

New Moon adjusts to $170m without PLF support so there is a potential for a female demo led movie to open above $200m but I still don't Frozen will do it.

$170m is not $200m.

Don't think Frozen 2 will do it as I think it'll have a nice holiday run that's not as frontloaded. Who knows.

I think RPat's Batman will do it. Sounds like it'll be a huge film with its character roster. If Skywalker somehow goes below 200m and Batman is the next one that'll be 2+ years with no 200m opener.

The fact that the Twilight movies made SO much money and now the series is virtually irrelevant and the films have no redeeming qualities outside of the context of obsessive Twilight fandom....is hilarious. A whole mega franchise that just came and went.

Yes. And same goes for Hunger Games.

You're saying that because most of the fans are female. Why couldn't a twilight fan say the same thing about comic book franchises that come and go?

I’m beginning to feel a little Frozen Fever. I’m predicting it will top the original by the end of its second weekend, but it actually doesn’t even need a $200M weekend to accomplish that. :hahaha:
