In this interview Joaquin says that it's become his dream role and seems open to continuing playing Joker... so I don't think it's a 0% chance.

I am sure this meeting took place weeks, if not months, ago. The films break-out was obvious for some time.

Unless they tease Batman in this I don't see Joker's standalone movie increasing. This was afterall a novelty to see Joker's origin story. Too early to say but I don't see an increase without any action next time.

I don't see a need for a 2nd Joker movie unless it has Batman. Batman vs Joker is the clear play.

Joker was the Unbreakable of the DC universe. I sincerely hope the Batman standalone is equally grounded in reality...and as others mentioned ties into the Joker universe.

I have to admit, I was wrong a couple of years back. I ridiculed WB for what I thought was a hopeless desperation play. A Joker origin movie??

I still wish there was a more cohesive strategy but the Avengers model isn’t the only viable approach. Sometimes random darts on the wall work IF the films are good.

Joaquin is a giant troll so anything he says should be taken with a grain of salt.

That said, if Pattinson's Batman goes well then surely WB will be driving trucks full of cash in front of his house to convince him to be in a sequel. Everyone has a price so you never know.

Yeah I don't see any significant increase for a sequel unless it somehow involves Batman which might honestly be a stretch if Phillips and Phoenix stick to their word about this being a true standalone universe.

Joker's success basically gives WB a new life to start DC universe. They should have built the brand with Batman movies anyways and shouldn't have kept Superman's movie at the core while making Batman "look" like a secondary character in Justice League movie.

The fact that they wasted the embodiment of perfect male beauty of Henry Cavill in two subpar Superman movies is just.... at least being cast made him work out to his absolute peak physical form as a result and produced the accompanying treasure trove of footage/photos from the movies and paparazzi shots. A great service to humanity that makes up for the blunders of the DC universe.

With this hold and $350m+ in the picture WB is going to back up the Brinks truck to make a sequel happen. I just hope it interconnects with the Batman movie, as mentioned before.

Hmm, does this mean without a release in China? Cuz BOM has grosses listed from China for ROTK and Skyfall. Otherwise, several other films grossed $700m+ OS-China (Avatar, Titanic, Endgame, Infinity War, Furious 7, TFA, TLK, Jurassic World). Not to take anything away from Joker's accomplishment ofc.

I’d really prefer a different Joker in The Batman. A more fun, cartoony Joker a la Jack Nicholson would fit better with where I hope the DCU goes.

But I thought it was too cool to be franchised like all those other garbage comic book movies? Does this mean Joker isn't real cinema either??????
