Hobbs & Shaw predictions
Looks like a good time. I'm pretty sick of The Rock though.
Think this has potential to match F8 domestically.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
$200m sounds just about right to me for this, should become the highest grossing action film of 2019.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
I was about to say that!! Why couldn't they call the entire team for this? It really is unnecessary and that the selling point was the chemistry rather than cars. Which could make it loose audience.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
Getting the whole team would probably unnecessary for this job, so getting two makes sense.

I was looking forward to Fate, but it didn't just quite live up to it. This looks like a bit more of a fresh take I think I'll enjoy more.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
For now I see it performing similarly to Fast 8 which would be HUGE. I definitely think it has a chance cracking $1B too, especially if it overperforms in China. Based on that trailer they should eat this movie up.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
How many spinoffs have done well? Bumblebee had good WOM. Scorpion King didn’t make 100m. Solo disappointed. I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
This is there Minions!
Also kind of brilliant. 10 even 5 years ago a The Rock vs Statham movie at best case would have done 75 million. Now we can argue over 750WW over/ under, and it gives the franchise time to breathe. Cause outside of them "Evil Vin" was pretty fucking stupid.
Also
Creed The Avengers Minions Fantastic Beasts Rogue One Ocean's 8 Glass
One could argue it is the era of the spinoff, sidequel, etc. They aren't supposed to be great by definition.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
I'm a huge fan of The Rock, but I wonder when Rock fatigue will hit like a pile of bricks? Certainly won't be with this one. Have to appreciate the man's work ethic.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
Apparently there's another villain in this (the boss of Elba's character) that hasn't been spoiled in trailers. I'd assume it'll be a post-credits reveal ala Statham in F&F6. Wouldn't surprise me, but I guess we'll see.

Between that and actors like Diesel and Rock soon leaving the series creating end of era hype, they are in the best position to copy the Infinity War/Endgame model

The problem is there’s so much bad blood that I can’t imagine some of these actors ever sharing the screen again. Hopefully the can resolve their differences and close things out properly.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
Man Keanu as the next big bad of this series would be pretty damn awesome. I think he would be a better fit for something like the Expendables, but F&F is definitely the next best thing considering how huge the franchise is now. It's sad to see that they probably won't be able to utilize him more though, because of the bad blood within the franchise. I love Shack's idea of a mega big bad for F9 and F10 and having Diesel and co truly end this era of F&F movies on a high note.

I thought they would but apparently F9 doesn't have the Rock or Statham and I think Rodriguez may be out too, so I would guess it's not going to be part 1 of the big ending like Infinity War

With the way this summer is going I’m downgrading my predictions. $40/$130m

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
My DOM estimate of $130m is probably too low but not by much.
Not hearing any backlash against the existence of this movie.
It'll be a big dumb late summer actioner that audiences will eat up with somewhat light competition.

Leitch said in an interview that the goal was for Keanu to appear but that scheduling and stuff didn’t work out.

Re: Hobbs & Shaw predictions
There is no reveal at the end. It was released here yesterday and the hidden villain is not revealed instead there is a comic scene from Reynolds which was arguably the funniest bit in the movie
