Weekend Predstimates
The Predator - $24M at that frontloading. The Nun - $18.2M -66.2% / $85M A Simple Favor - $16M White Boy Rick - $8.8M Crazy Rich Asians - $8.7M -33.8% / $149.5M Peppermint - $6M -54.8% / $24.25M Unbroken 2 - Lol The Meg is still chugging along with $3.8M and $137M total. Would love to see it crawl over $150M, but seems unlikely now that it will start shedding theaters. Another good hold for Searching with $3.2M and $19.6M total. Fallout passes $216M to become the #5 movie of the summer and highest grossing in the franchise. Christopher Robin is at $95M and will surely be pushed over.

Predator should drop like a pair of concrete boots. Ouch at The Nun, WOM has really kicked in.

Re: Weekend Predstimates
The Nun will probably be the biggest film of the franchise WW. Pretty impressive.
Mission Impossible will finish with close to 800m WW. Very nice.

Re: Weekend Predstimates
Awful IM for The Predator. It's going to drop like a rock in the upcoming weeks and with an $88M budget I doubt it breaks even. Looking at the OS performance so far it will be lucky to cross $150M WW. Solid for A Simple Favor though and about what I expected for White Boy Rick. Unbroken 2 has to definitely be one of the most pointless sequels ever made lmao. Big drop for The Nun, but it's made so much fucking money OS that it really doesn't even matter.

Brilliant hold for Searching. Anyone know how cheap was it to make? It should have surely turned into profit by now.

Re: Weekend Predstimates
I am surprised White Boy Rick dropped on Saturday. I guess it played more as a young urban movie than an Oscar-baiting drama for adults.

Re: Weekend Predstimates
The good holds for many of the older holdovers goes to show that the post Labor Day drops were largely about a collection of films that happen to have staying power, rather than about an easy week for holdovers. This week Peppermint had a standard drop, there was nothing special, but the others were not in the same league. Even Fallout held well while losing screens.
It makes sense, August is a good time to release a film with staying power. Late July can allow a movie like Fallout to take advantage of a longer run. Earlier in the summer that potential would be diminished by all the new blockbusters. Meanwhile the late summer movies without staying power have already faded.
On that note, Meg is having a really nice run. Perhaps the comedy angle helped. And Crazy Rich Asians isn’t showing insane holds anymore, but there is every reason to be happy with the run. The first drop was probably due to demographic expansion.
