Well

1. Avengers 1 with inflation isn't far behind this
2. Jurassic World's $70m Saturday was plagued by lack of showtimes (everybody thought it would open to ~115-125m)

$78m vs $82m is FAR behind when talking about these days the higher it goes the difficult it becomes. I don't think JW did lesser due to showtimings, it was in about 100 less theaters than Avengers and had almost the same PTA with more PLF screens in 2015 than 2012, you cannot bring this argument for something that broke the record even if marginally.

Also interesting that it is doing it in a fashion similar to the first Avengers: misses the opening day record, but still has the biggest raw Friday, and then crushes the Saturday and (presumably) crushes the Sunday record.

$250m estimate, projecting a 26% drop today. I think it holds better than that.

Was going to say. Seems like they are being very conservative with the Sunday drop. Wouldn't surprise me to see this number go up 5-7 million after actuals.

It will need $261m to beat SW's adjusted record. Unlikely but it could do it with a really really good Sunday hold.

This gross makes me realize Age of Ultron's run was bizarre. It should have been ridiculous huge like 1 and 3. It even had good marketing?

It's just that Ulton was one of the weeker MCU movies. It made a lot of money only because it had the most superheros in a movie at the time.

Crazy numbers. I really thought Episode VII was going to hold onto the record for a few more years, at least.

Infinity War was pretty awesome, though, so good for it!

Marketing was fine, but I think Age of Ultron lacked the building of stakes that's usually needed for a sequel to really crush it. And Whedon's decision to only add two new superheroes that aren't really big names probably slowed it too - you can sense Marvel trying to make up for that by bringing so many of the Avengers back for Civil War and then adding in Black Panther (and then Spider-Man when they got the rights).

Avengers 1 dropped 18% on Sunday.
Avengers 2 dropped 11% on Sunday.

If Avengers 3 were to drop those amounts today it would actually make 257M or 263M respectively. It will probably drop a bit more than 18%, but it will likely go up from the official estimate. That is an insane opening.

Thats a great opening, i wonder what film will be the first to make 300m in a weekend.

Awesome Saturday number. That's $4.4 million higher than 2012 Avengers with inflation and $5.5 million higher than Jurassic World with inflation. Incredible stuff.

Seems Disney is underestimating the Sunday number at $61m. I think it will be closer to $66m, which gives the weekend a $255m total. Now the big question will be legs. Can it go past $700m? That's a 2.75 multiplier from $255m opening.

Damn that Saturday. INSANE as it went up again to $83m (the biggest raw day ever by a big margin). The movie is showing no signs of slowing down so I can think of another insane Sunday hold for it.

I agree $255m seems like it will happen though I would really like it to break past $261m adjusted opening of TFA :P :P
