I don't know how can people say no one cares when TLJ was one of the biggest movies of all time just 6 months ago. Obviously MANY MANY people care. Also I mentioned before the wait of 1.5 years will help here.

the utter disaster of Solo is having me rethink this. TLJ may really have fucked over the franchise forever. There are plenty of reasons that Solo is bombing but I'm starting to think the TLJ effect is bigger than I thought it would be. It's sort of reminding me of Justice League.

Justice League was supposed to be the main event. Solo is the side dish.

Yeah, but JL was following up BvS. Solo is following up a greatly reviewed, $600+ mil film.

TLJ was a short term success for Disney. In the long term it clearly hurt the brand and has created backlash

NOBODY CARES ABOUT Han Solo!

THATS IT

For starters let's not consider Solo's failure to of track a finale in SW episode trilogy. Its also not proven that these movies can survive frequent release which could have been the biggest factor here.

TLJ shouldn't have impacted Solo as much (other than the two movies coming out so soon). I mean anyone following SW knows that Han is dead and this is his origins story they should have technically been more excited to revisit one of the most famous "older" characters from the original trilogy when the new one is SO messed up. I think it's a case where there was no hook and people rejecting Solo rather than TLJ backlash hurting it. I mean what true SW fan would not see origins of Solo because they didn't like what Rey, Kylo and Luke did in TLJ.

I think it's hilarious that there are dudes out there boycotting Solo because Anthony Ingruber wasn't cast.

Why is that hilarious? The movie industry works for the public. The public pays for it, and if the movie industry doesn't make what the public wants for whatever reason, the public votes with its feet. I think its admirable, actually. Usually the public attends 'just because' it's the latest big release.

this will be lucky to match Rogue One. I can't see any situation where it matches TLJ

If they have a Force Ghost team of Luke, CGI Leia, Ewan as Obi Wan, Hayden as Anakin (lol), Yoda and Mace Windu all fighting Kylo Ren and a 'Dark Force Ghost' resurrected Palpatine.

TLJ took the enthusiasm out of the SW fanbase who no longer will watch anything with SW attached to it.

But wouldn't that be a short term gain and ruin the movies ahead? I mean the audience have to move on from this old group eventually otherwise these movies won't work in the long run.

100%. This is what happens when you ignore the hardcore fans of a massive franchise that has been around for decades.

At this point, I think Rogue One numbers might actually be the ceiling for Episode 9.

I think it could work at this point to make the series look "hip and different"

Star Wars is in trouble now, but being the last chapter will help a lot, however I expect it to gross between 550m-600m

Post subject:  Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)

Given that a Star Wars film is released so often now, I wonder if your average Star Wars fan believes that IX will be the final chapter. Do they trust Disney not to milk it even more? And do some of them even care if it's the last one? Solo's numbers do kind of show that the fans have lost faith. I wonder how far that stretches.
