Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
I am really not feeling this one. I don't want to predict a decline but won't be surprised by it. Its JJ so I am sure the RT score will be high but then they should have released those scores by now to build buzz.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
lol... this might flub! people who loved Last Jedi (myself) less thrilled because JJ’s returning (and TFA was shit). People who loved TFA feel burned by Last Jedi... no one’s stoked. Wish Rian Johnson could’ve finished out the trilogy, for better or worse. This feels like a compromise that leaves no one happy, brought to you by JJ “Remember ST: Into Darkness?” Abrams.
who knows though, maybe it’s good. It’ll make at least $420m too so not a bomb by any means.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
I just checked pre-sales at my local theaters in Germany (a top SW market) and they're way down compared to SW7 and SW8...
Hopefully they'll pick up in the next couple of days...

For the finale in the Skywalker saga there really doesn't feel like much buzz. Compare that to Endgame, ROTK or Sith - all of which felt like they were highly anticipated events.
You reap what you sow Disney.

I'm sensing no real buzz from this even with all the promotion and awareness. No articles or reports of boffo ticket sales either. It won't flop but definitely won't match the success of the 1st 2 in this trilogy.

A little shocking but I'm now thinking this has a fight on it's hands to match or beat Rogue One.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
I was always concerned with the opening. With RT score sure to be in 90's because of JJ's involvement its going to have decent legs but I feel it will have comparatively muted opening.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
The Kylo Ren clip is easily the best piece of marketing they have had for this movie so far, but why is it just getting released a week before the movie comes out? Disney has really fucked up with the marketing for this IMO.

Over at BOT Charlie has presales for the weekend as of now estimated $63.5m. Think OW should be good for $175m+. How high it goes will depend on how buzz builds.

I really enjoy the movie too. All I was saying it seems JJ found a good creative way to work around a missed opportunity, that will add upon his death.

Re: Star Wars - Episode IX predictions (12/20/2019)
It's still a bit early but I've been comparing the numbers of open seats in various theaters across the US and trying to see if that will affect sales. It's the last film in SW but the hype is definitely not the Avengers: Endgame level. I'm not even sure it's TLJ level - which I recall had a good amount of hype going in.
I think TROS will take around an 8-10% hit (compared to TLJ) during the OW and make something like $195-205 mil for the opening weekend.
A good number of people seem to have disliked TLJ and Solo but I don't think that means they'll all boycott this film like some would have you believe. Essentially, it will probably be between R1 and TLJ in terms of success.
DOM: $550-600 mil
WW: $1.1-1.3 billion

I think the overseas #s are gonna be interesting considering how Solo absolutely bombed.

I will be disappointed in its box office IF it fails to top TLJ domestic & worldwide. Really disappointed.
