This August is looking pretty... dire. 1 year ago Suicide Squad grossed 133m opening weekend. I bet combining all of this August's openings won't even add up to 133m.

It's not like it matters now but which film should've been released this date? Would Baby Driver had done better had it stayed in August? Would Alien or Power Rangers have grossed 100m+? Could Kingsman had maximized its potential for the last big summer blockbuster? What do y'all think?

I think Power Rangers would've benefited heavily from a better ad campaign and this date.

Cars 3. Nobody cared in June and it was right in the middle of a audience mutiny against franchise pictures. In the dead days of August, with so little else to see, maybe a new Pixar flick would be more appreciated.

Hard to argue with the Baby Driver move considering the results. I think all the franchise competition might have even helped it.

Ghost in the Shell would have been good for next weekend. It's probably still a bust considering the budget, but like Cars 3 atleast people would give it a closer look.

Power Rangers and Kingsman. Kingsman should have faced Dark Tower this weekend and Power Rangers against Annabelle. And Ghost in the Shell should have moved to Power Rangers date.

Apes should have taken the pre Memorial Day slot.

Apes and Valerian could have benefited from a less crowded August.

Even American Made could have done better in August. Interestingly its opening here later this month.

Power Rangers definitely feels like an August release. While I can't blame them for sticking to their longtime release date, with the benefit of hindsight dropping Transformers in August could have worked

Another choice is It. WB could've moved Annabelle closer to Halloween (although the end of October does already look like a clusterfuck) and It would've opened huge. It's still going to do well in September but I bet being the last big release of the summer would've helped it along with getting bigger weekdays.

Apes for sure. I don't think Power Rangers would have done better in any spot. Its legs weren't only because of the competition though it could have crawled to $100m with August.

Since it opened in #1, perhaps The Dark Tower should have taken the date!

Yeah, it just beat Dunkirk's 3rd weekend. What a win.

It actually is since the film would not have done better on any other date because it just looks shit. They should be delighted by $19.5m.
