Well I disagree. It had a fairly poor showing in limited release last weekend, and relative to expectations that is far better than "decent".

Definitely. It may have a chance at $300M if it holds like Tintin.

My suicide note will read "More Americans saw Sing than Moana"

Very sad. I was hoping Moana will make more but that won't be the case sadly. :(

Passengers made 7.5 Million.

Post subject:  Re: Christmas Day Numbers

Solid rebound for Passengers. With some luck it might at least approach $90 million domestically.

This isn't bad at all considering its tepid start.

Fantastic for La La Land. Terrific rebound for Passengers. Not a huge surprise there.

Now, that number would be really great for Fences, but Deadline says 3.9 Million. I don't know who to believe! :P

Absolutely fantastic start for Hidden Figures.

That wouldn't make any sense though. It wouldn't see that big of a drop on Monday if it dropped at all.

Post subject:  Re: Christmas Day Numbers

That's a solid number for Fences, but I honestly expected a bit more. It was selling out all day yesterday and it looks about the same today so hopefully it has a nice increase. Tragic numbers for AS and the fact that it got beat out by WH yesterday is pretty embarrassing. Good rebound for Passengers, although the damage has already been done.

According to the actuals, Fences DID drop 26% on Monday. So much for it being bogus.

Today, Tuesday, was absolutely nutso at my theater. In fact, we sold more tickets today than we ever have in a single day, by a lot (like 30%). Insane.

Maybe poor WOM from audiences who aren't insane is spreading. :P

I went to the movies today too. Absolutely no place to park in the parking lot. People were parking in places that weren't parking spots. It was a madhouse. My theater has a huge parking lot. Surrounded by it. And you still couldn't find a spot. We parked across the road at a gas station and just walked over.

The showing of Fences I saw at 4:15 sold out. The 8:05 of Manchester By The Sea was surprisingly on the biggest screen and it was packed.

First holiday season in many years I won't be going to the movies. May have considered checking out La La Land if it was here but we never got it. Just not going to spend money on mediocre offerings and I must be one of the 7 people in the country that never got into Star Wars.
