They have a similar formula it seems. Why is Sing going to make so much more than Trolls, KFP3, Home, Penguins, HTTYD2, etc.? |

DreamWorks seemed to lose its edge and tried to copy Pixar. Illumination is in that position of being the relative new boys with nothing to lose. |

Beyond "making more" - it's the profit that's really impressive. Dreamworks should be asking why Illumination is able to make movies that look basically as good as theirs for 1/2 the price. |

Early Dreamworks films had a formula. Assemble a celeb voice cast and make pop culture reference jokes. It worked exactly twice (Shrek and Shrek 2). How were they edgy? |

Fox ruined Dreamworks. Universal actually knows how to market their films. |

Show me a Pixar film that has the same? THAT's edgy in this business. |

That's why Shrek was successful and Shark Tale, Madagascar, Over the Hedge etc. didn't come close to its gross, despite still actually doing very good in today's terms. |

Well, of course not, but it does indicate that the film tries to appeal to adults and children, not solely children like Madagascar and Over the Hedge crap. And I thought we were talking about why they make more money. Here's a reason why. If you dispute it, then find your own answer. ![]() |

Shrek 2 had the animation record for the last 12 years, but sure. At this point. They are all pretty shitty. All that matters is the trailer, then not be horrible enough to have legs afterwards.. Animation has seriously turned into the Mad Libs of cinema. |
