I really can't believe Joneses opened with less than Masterminds, despite a much better and funnier trailer. Masterminds had to have hurt it, by confusing audiences with another Galifianakis small-looking movie after only 2 weeks. |

So Madea is playing well with families it would seem. Why is a movie about a Columbine victim called I'm Not Ashamed? Surely they know that is misleading. |

What does everyone think the final number for Reacher will be over or under 23m. I figure it dipped on Saturday due to low matinees and today NFL has been on since 930 a.m. EST so my feel is it comes in a bit lower but of someone has a good method of crunching numbers please let me know. |

So Madea ended up increasing on Saturday while Reacher decreased? I don't get that, but with the NFL games on today it will likely go under $23M. Same goes for The Accountant and probably Ouija 2 as well. Either way what a great opening for Madea. Brand name recognition and an audience that has been underserved in months led to a nice breakout for it and it should hold well next week with it being Halloween. Reacher did a bit better than expected, but it's legs/total won't be anything special and will need OS to help it break even just like the last one. Ok opening for Ouija 2, but it could have done better. |

Amazing opening for Madea and amazing debut for Moonlight in limited release. Solid and expected opening for Ouija. Both Madea and Ouija should have respectable holds next weekend. Almost thinking they should make a direct sequel to Boo! for next October. If it's Halloween it must be Madea ![]() |

I have an aunt who's obsessed with Tyler Perry/Madea, and she'll be thrilled that Boo! A Madea Halloween is a success (she's been talking about it all month). Tyler Perry's Madea Gets a Job and/or Tyler Perry's Neighbors from Hell are probably going to get green-lit for theaters soon. |

Madea rises to an estimated 28.4 Million weekend after Sunday and Jack Reacher drops a bit to 22.7 Million. |

What a superb IM for Madea. Can't imagine anyone saw that coming. Tyler Perry has no reason to lose the fat suit anytime soon. |

http://deadline.com/2016/10/weekend-box ... 201840348/ Quote: The question for Boo! next weekend is how strong it will hold, as traditionally there is a drop-off in the sophomore frame for Madea films. However, David Spitz, Lionsgate president of domestic theatrical distribution, thinks this time around will be different, as the film is clearly crossing over. “One thing that is interesting about this movie and it showed in the research initially and the exit polls pointed it out: We have more of a general audience this time around. Usually, on average, 80% to 90% of Tyler Perry films draw an African American audience and with Boo! its 60% African American and 32% Caucasian and Latinos,” said Spitz, who also noted that with Halloween coming up, the film is likely to get a nice boost in the marketplace. “Because we are playing out differently than other Tyler Perry films, I think we have a chance to over-perform on the second weekend.” |

And the second weekend is Halloween, so whatever happens we won't be able to attribute it to any one thing. |
