They'll need to nail the casting, which I think they will. But the soon to be success of Beauty and the Beast will surely increase the domestic gross for Mulan. And there might not be a number high enough to predict for the China gross. I think Mulan has a decent shot at a low $300 mil total, probably around $325 mil. Jungle Book made $600 mil Overseas, with $150 mil from China. I think Mulan can easily double that. And match it in every other territory. I think it can do $800+ mil Overseas. Do people care about the original MULAN? I don't doubt that it'll be big in China, but I think it'll sell less tickets than the original movie domestically, which only adjusts to $220 million. As Disney animated features go, it's not one of their beloved classics. |

No. I think it will do over 200 million, but not 300 million, and it will be big overseas but not that big. Mulan is really good but it was only a medium size hit for Disney. I do think the historical setting could maybe give it some Oscar love if it delivers. |

It's probably Disney's strongest animated film on the theme of female empowerment. I definitely think it could play to a much larger audience, especially with millennials, on top of all the nostalgia Gen X'ers. |

I don't see this coming anywhere near being 2018's #1 worldwide grosser, or even near Jungle Book's gross. Something around Cinderella's total seems more likely, which will be a far cry from the grosses of films like Avengers: Infinity War, Toy Story 4, the Jurassic World sequel and Avatar 2. |

For some reason I don't think having the main character be a chinese woman guarantees a hit in China. They could perfectly react negatively in a "that doesn't reflect our cuture, thanks but no thanks" kind ofway. |

Sorry, I should have said "That's not entirely true" because of course there is truth to it. The Chinese do have a tendency to a) flock to big Hollywood films and b) not think politically. I just wanted to also add a population angle to it, because that fucking matters when it's as big as China's. |

Basically Mulan is no hero in this story/script. She's just a pretty girl and there's a white dude that comes with his army, falls in love with her and saves the day because of it. |
