September 27-29 predictions
Abominable - 4,100+
Probably sub-30m opening unfortunately but who knows, hasn't been a family movie in a minute and Angry Birds flopped.

Re: September 27-29 predictions
I think Abominable can crack 30m+ if audiences forgot Smallfoot already. But they probably didn’t so 25m is more likely. Shame, because Usually dreamworks is a bigger draw than Warner Bros.

Re: September 27-29 predictions
Yeah I'm not really seeing the appeal of Abominable even though the marketplace is pretty open for it right now. If it does more than mid 20's I'd very surprised considering I haven't even seen that much marketing for it. I remember seeing a lot more marketing for Smallfoot last year, and that barely cracked the mid 20's.

The problem with Abominable is... it has no plot. I could not even venture to guess what the hell it's even about. The trailers are terrible.

Re: September 27-29 predictions
Despite being a DreamWorks movie Abominable feels like a total non-event. It's almost as if all of the non-Disney family films have just given up.It's kinda sad. Maybe $20-22 million opening?
Judy will be interesting. Looking at early showtimes I think Roadside is doing their 300-400 theater release thing? Buzz is high for Zellweger's performance, could be a small breakout.

The tv spots I see boast that "if you liked How to Train Your Dragon, you'll love Abominable!" which is always one of the oddest, laziest ways to promote a movie.
