Terrible for ID:R. Impressive for The Shallows - glad to see it do well.

What a pathetic start for ID:R. It might barely crack $40M over the weekend if it turns out to be really frontloaded and the mediocre WOM isn't doing it any favors either. Great start for The Shallows though and it should be well on it's way to being the sleeper hit of the summer. Dory's Saturday increase is going to be interesting to watch.

LOL, Warcraft is going to drop 70%+ again this weekend.

That's less what ID4 did on its first Friday ($17.7m), its third/fourth day of release (major previews on Tuesday starting at 5pm), when the average ticket price was $4.42...

Warcraft might be the biggest domestic bomb but ID4 2 is by far the biggest disappointment.

Fantastic for Dory, and rather terrific for The Shallows as well. It's likely headed for $18M+, yet another hit powered by women.

Would you consider Lively a bona-fide draw now?

It should break even thanks to overseas returns (theoretically), but that is just beyond awful for Independence Day. The original film broke the record for fastest movie to $100 million (6.5 days, basically) 20 years ago. And this movie might not even make that much in total. The ticket decline movie-to-movie might be even worse than Alice. Awful.

So Dory ranked

19th all-time for opening weekend
11th all-time for opening week
and might rank
5th all-time for 2nd weekend

Doesn't look frontloaded to me...

Lol, so ID4's first 7 days adjusted will be over the sequel's OD. That is atrocious.

Among the various ways one can compare Resurgence to the original to embarrass it, this seems a rather mediocre one. "Ha ha, its opening day won't top another blockbuster's first seven days adjusted for 20 years of inflation!"

Woo-hoo! Go Shallows. Glad to see it do so well.

I wish Secret Life of Pets wasn't opening so soon. Will cut into Dory's run.

Dory may drop in the 40s in its 4th weekend, TSLOP won't hurt it as much as DM2 hurt Monsters University. Plus, TSLOP won't open big like Minions did.

I wouldn't worry too much about Pets hurting Dory; it'll probably be the other way around.

Yeah, DM2 hurt MU partly because MU was just okay received compared to Monsters Inc., and DM2 was considered on par with its well liked predecessor. Finding Dory is considered almost on par with Finding Nemo, and The Secret Life of Pets is starting out similarly to Minions on RT.

ID:R's opening sure settles the argument of whether the Rock was a big part of the success of San Andreas or not. Anyone saying a year ago (or hell, 3 months ago) that an Independence Day sequel would open $15M lower than San Andreas would have been called crazy.

It does mot mean much since the film is cemented as a dud, but I am surprised Alice Through the Looking Glass stayed in the top ten (and above Me Before You, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2) despite its absolutely gargantuan loss of theatres.

No.

People went to watch that for the fear factor. Anyone could have done that role, however, I did like her performance.

It may be helped by double features with Dory.
