Well, here it is.

baumer started the thread on Mojo, but doesn't seem he'll join here soon.

Post your predictions, discuss them, talk about movie. Would prefer that this would be spoiler-free thread though, but if you're insisting in some spoilers, would be good if you make the text 'highlight to read', meaning choose font colour to be white. (color=white)spoilers(/color), and replace () with [].

Here it is:

$106m three-day opening, $146m four-day

$411m total

And I wasn't critisising your prediction, more amusment at it's lowness.

I mean this is Star Wars, no matter how much you hate it, you should know that it'll open higher than that. Much higher.

And if it doesn't, don't you worry, I'll remove all the evidence where I said different. ;)

Now why didn't Episode II do this good? I don't see how Star Wars can get bigger when it has lost all of its common audience. The common audience now sees these movies as a Fans Only Movie, in my opinion.

That would be one hell of a fan community to propel the movie to $310m.

I doubt the fans were responsible for even 10% of it's gross.

And as for why didn't AOTC gross that many? I don't know, dissapointment after TPM, much less hype, WOM even? I don't know why John and Michelle decided not to see it.

And with my prediction, I hope they'll see it, and that they'll bring their friends as well. I predited that as a fan, and normally to some people it'll seem high.

Fans only movie is true, not very well explained, but i know what you mean.

I will probably see this movie, but i am not anticipated about it at all. By no means at all. And i think alot of people think this too, there are just too many Star Wars movies about now.....then again, because this is the "supposed" last one, people may shed the dollars to see it, who knows :?

I figure the trailers will be much better than AOTC, which were awesome themselves. And factor in inflation, ROTS should do minimally better than AOTC.

BUT (This is huge but), if the trailers capture how dark ROTS is really going to be, this will not gross 300 million. If it's PG-13, even less.

With dark trailers and PG-13 rating:
Opening: $85.0
Total: $255.0

It will gross more than AOTC ( Domestic and Worldwide). For me thats a safe thing.
I think dark Trailers will lead to a high gross.

Okay, let me go through it...

STAR WARS: EPISODE III - Revenge of the Sith:

There is a lot going for this movie and I am sure that it will be the movie event of 2004, even if it fails to secure the top spot of the year. It is also the most anticipated movie of the next year. The fact that it is the probably last movie of the series that has lasted for decades will help it, no doubt. However, it would be somewhat foolish to compare it to Return of the King in this way, as all movies of the Lord of the Rings franchise were very beloved and praised, unlike the new Star Wars movies. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace was a huge success at the box-office, but it was an ultimate disappointment to many Star Wars fans. This disappointment reflected in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones' gross which only represented about 72% of its predecessor's gross.

On the other hand AOTC made up for some of the flaws on The Phantom Menace, especially by reducing Jar Jar Binks' screen-time and giving the movie a darker mood than its predecessor had. This is definitely reflected in the higher RT rating, the higher IMDB rating and the better reactions from the viewers. Furthermore, as mentioned above, the fact that this will most likely be the last Star Wars movie to be seen on a big screen will help the repeat viweings as hardcore fans won't miss the opporunity to see the last installment of their beloved franchise on the silver screen as often as possible, knowning that there will be no other Star Wars movies to look forward to, in near future.

Moreover, I don't think that the darker mood of the last movie will have an effect on the audiences. In the end, it is still Star Wars and it will most likely garner a PG rating, once again.

The movie also won't have to deal with huge competiton coming from a movie that has had the biggest opening weekend of all time and a 40 years worth of fans (i.e. Spider-Man). Next May actually seems rather weak with Kingdom of Heaven being a historical epic (and we all know what happened to Troy and King Arthur this year) and no huge movies aside from Madagascar which aims at younger audiences.

The opening weekend of this movie should be bigger than of its predecessor which had to deal with many fans disappointed by the first movie in the Prequel Trilogy who weren't all too eager to go out and see this movie as soon as possible. Revenge of the Sith won't really have this problem. I don't see why it should make any less at the box-office than Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Therefore, here are my predictions:

Opening weekend (4-day) - $126.5 million

Total gross - $338 million

I predicted the 4-day opening weekend. By that I mean that it will make $36 million on its first day and $90.5 million on its 3-day weekend. That gives it legs almost as good as Attack of the Clones had them and those were decent legs.
