Between this news and Spider-Man being scene stealer in Civil War, I think it's a given this break $1 billion worldwide. Domestically, I'm currently thinking a 150/400 breakdown is possible.

Homecoming is a great title.

Though I can't imagine it opens to 150 million, because there is fatigue with the character regardless of who's playing him. Probably 125 million.

He's not though, and if that's what it's for, that's even worse.

I don't know about $400M+, but $300M+ should be a lock unless the movie sucks or Sony fucks up the marketing ASM2 style.

His appearance in Civil War is something that audiences will eat up. I'll say an opening around Spider-Man 3, especially if RDJ and more of the Avengers are in it.

Having other Marvel superhero's might not help this one open huge IMO.

Its not the other way around. Spidey is a huge sell in CA:CW unless this is another Avengers heavy movie.

I really hope this doesn't become another Avengers side movie. Having Stark as a mentor type character to Parker could be a really fun dynamic, but adding more superheros will just take away from it. This needs to be Spider-Man's movie with Tony only being used to a limited compacity. Anyways, RDJ alone will get this to a $100M+ OW, but can't say more until we see some actual footage.

It depends a lot on Tom Holland and what the movie looks like.

Remenber the amazing reception Hulk got after the first Avengers? That's exactly how it will play out for Spider-Man.

If the film is good (85+% RT), I see a $350+ million total.

Hulk didn't get another movie after the Avengers, so you can't really say if it actually improved his brand. The SM brand is in way worse shape going into CW than Hulk was going into Avengers.

I feel the film will be rather low key (no "save the world" plot), which should help it with reviews but also keep it fairly low-grossing (as far as superhero movies go). I'll go for a $235m total right now. The character has been in too many reboots, and while getting back into the hands of Marvel is kind of cool, the majority of people will not know or care about that - but they know what they've seen, and they've seen Spider-Man too much over the years.

Not a single Spider-Man film had a save-the-world plot before.

Spidey's appearance in Civil War is basically a very long trailer for his own film. And it is a trailer that audiences will eat up.

Not really. I personally hated TASM, but it definitely had its fans. Ange Lee's Hulk on the other hand...

Hulk leading up to Avengers had The Incredible Hulk, which was "decently" liked. Spider Man heading into Civil War had The Amazing Spider Man 2... which was not well liked, at all.

I feel this won't even be "save New York" size.

Civil War is just a trailer for this and a very effective one.

Well Homeconing at least will still be part of the MCU with Iron Man being in it. That's great news and will ensure 300m+.

450m is a big call but if the film is as good as Civil War - then its a good shot.

don't think it'll do 450 unless other Avengers are in it other than RDJ. That sounds way too big.

We'll see, need a trailer.
