Disappointing for Ouija: Origin of Evil consideirng the marketplace was perfect for it. I guess people were wary after the first one. With better WoM it could get to $13.5 million over the weekend, but it still won't break a $40 million total.

Jack Reacher is a small surprise. I guess the PG-13-rating really helped. Should pass $60 million domestically.

The Accountant will probably be this October's highest-grossing film which isn't saying much. It'll be the lowest-grossing October winner since 2007!

The Magnificent Seven can kiss $100 million goodbye.

Wow a movie performed overexpectations! Would $25m / $65m be enough for Jack Reacher 3?

Not surprised by the numbers for Ouija 2. Good reviews or not the first movie sucked, and people weren't going to put up with that shit this time. Atleast it will still be profitable for the studio though. Jack Reacher 2 is somewhat of a surprise considering the muted buzz and the lackluster reviews, but I doubt it does more than $60-$65M domestic. I do find it interesting how pretty much all the adult films are doing well despite heavily cannibalizing each other. It's like the complete opposite of last year, but I guess not having a Gravity or Martian type hit is really helping these movies co exist.

LOL @ Moonlight doing 3x the numbers of American Pastoral in 4 theaters rather than 50.

Madea rose 20% on Saturday, Ouija rose 3%, and Reacher dropped 4.5%. Those are the estimates.

Well, it clearly targets a few portions of society (blacks, gays), which are loyal and support this type of film. American Pastoral doesn't really have that. And those 4 cinemas would have been specially selected for maximum ROI. And the great reviews (against Pastoral's poor reviews) definitely helped.
