The battle of the 7th parts on the international side is much closer than expected with F&F7 at $1,163m and SW7 at $1,118m (February 21st 2016).

Both franchises will see an 8th installment next year - which one will be bigger overseas?

SW8 because FF8 will decrease in China.

Do you know of any Hollywood sequels which have decreased in China?

Its because of Paul Walker factor that FF7 saw HUGE hikes everywhere including China and I believe it will drop to $350m there. Might not seem big but that alone should be the difference because I see SW8 increasing to $150m in China.

Of course Star Wars 8 will win this. Furious 7 was inflated EVERYWHERE because of the Walker factor, and it will go back to a Fast Six-level OS gross for 8.

Also look at SW7's OS gross. Even without a huge China total its almost caught up to FF7. F8 is going to decrease in OS markets and SW8 will increase.

INTL update:

$1,129.9m SW7

Star Wars, it's a no-brainer.

Star Wars only has room to improve. F8 will drop below the 7th in almost all territories. It may not even be a 1 billion WW contender.

FF7 was only as big as it was due to the Walker factor. This will decrease globally.

Not much of a competition for sure though SW8 itself will drop below SW7.

It would make more sense to pit FF8 with Rogue One. The box office totals will be closer than SW8.

Okay time to bump this thread up... F&F7 won the battle against SW7 by 3 % ($34.1m) - who will win the battle of the 8th installments?

The fact that Fast & fucking Furious is bigger than STAR WARS internationally is insane and indicative of how much China differs culturally from the West.

SW8 will increase while F8 will decrease from their predecessors.

Looks like SW8 isn't increasing at the least over OW. But let's see what SW8 does in China, if it sees a big increase there it could easily catch-up on F8's total, SW7 ended up doing a decent $124m.

it's not even going to be close. SW8 is aiming for 700m about. More than 300m less than F8

Aren't most people in the know expecting SW8 to drop from SW7 in China?

Strange to still see an active thread with a reply from Lecter in it.

Why? Most first sequels see an increase in China

Idk that's what I see Chinese posters on BOT saying.
