Birdman (the user not the movie) has a decent shot at nailing the Top 5 if Zootopia can outgross Deadpool.

It can't possibly do that without an Inside Out level opening. Not gonna happen.

I think it can do $90 million in opening. So yep.

C'mon Zootopia. I could really use a win.

I think Zootopia's upper cap is still at $320m-$330m so Deadpool will do more.

Welp, since Grimsby didn't even get 2,455 theaters, it won't be dropping that many in two weeks. Oh well.

Post subject:  Re: KJ's Winter/Spring 2016 Box Office Contest

Yep. PPZ has locked the question for the biggest drop. I don't see Keanu, MBFGW2 dropping that big or they might not even be in those many theaters. WTF and Grimsby are playing in less theaters so that is out of the question as well.

Part of me wants you to do it because it's actually possible. Part of me wants me to be the first to do it though (Zootopia less than Deadpool, Jungle Book greater than both). Zootopia will benefit from spring break, and not be impacted as much by BvS as Jungle Book will be by Captain America.

All of this assumes BvS will be #1...

Both my pick, Whiskey, and London has Fallen drop out of the theatre drop race.

Only Keanu and Miracles left in it against PPZ's humongous drop.

I don't see Keanu getting enough theatres, like Grimsby, so it looks like a scoreless question.

This will probably flip next weekend:

13 Hours ($52.85 million) + The 5th Wave ($34.14 million) = $86.99 million
London Has Fallen ($55.61 million) + Gods of Egypt ($30.18 million) = $85.79 million

Very close, but London Has Fallen probably has around $9 million left in the tank.

#10: What will be the highest grossing film not predicted in the total gross section (including the backup films)? 10 Cloverfield Lane

Is it perhaps unfair 10 Cloverfield Lane is eligible for this question considering the film's final title was not revealed until January 15, 2016 which was a couple of weeks after the picks had to be submitted?

It's how it goes unfortunately. While it was a hugely surprising announcement, the movie's release date has been set before our game began, and it was known it was a JJ Abrams project back in 2014:

None of us saw the hints for it though! :)

  • Batman v Superman - prediction $335 million (off by $4 million)
  • Dirty Grandpa - prediction $35 million (off by $1 million)
