 First domestic $1b grosser?
Now that SW7 has left theaters with $936,662,225 the big question is what movie will finally crack the $1b mark and when will it happen?

SW9 is the only option I see in the near horizon and even so, the chances are between 5-10%.

It will be something new because I don't see any other franchise renewal being as huge as SW. Maybe after Avatar if Cameron tries something new that will get there.

Yeah Star Wars 9 has a shot but a small one. Disney will have over saturated the market with SW by them that it won't be as special an event as it should.
That said the movie business will keep moving to a select batch of mega events per year and it's likely to happen sooner rather than later.

Even with SW7 coming so close I don't see the mark being hit before 2020 or later unless Cameron does his magic with one of the Avatar sequels.

It's an economics question.: when will inflation boost the cost of tickets to surpass this artifical number? If it were based on true popularity via domestic tickets sold, Gone With The Wind won this contest in spirit decades ago.
