![]() I cannot believe there is no thread for this yet... Anyway, the trailer premiered at CinemaCon recently: Quote: @firstshowing Oh yes! First trailer for Creed with Michael B. Jordan was giving me chills. Looks phenomenal, the way it all builds up. Stallone. Loved it. @slashfilm Wow. Creed has the potential to be a great sports film on its own, and the emotional tiein to the original Rocky series is strong #CinemaCon @film_girl So I was about to roll my eyes at #Creed but the trailer was great. Rocky keeps going. #CinemaCon @colliderfrosty CREED trailer looks like a solid reinvention of the ROCKY franchise. Well cut. Good looking cinematography and performances @devincf First CREED footage: awesome. Small, gritty, character based. Jordan is cool, troubled. It stars Michael B. Jordan as Apollo Creed's boxer grandson, and Stallone as Rocky who helps to train him, and obviously will feature heavily as a guide to the youngster plus as an anchor for the franchise as a whole. It is directed by Ryan Coogler of Fruitvale Station fame, and opens on 25th November, 2015 in the United States and Canada. It opens in the same spot that Rocky did in 1976, although this time it will obviously be a wide release alongside Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, Ridley Scott's The Martian, Midnight Special, and a Seth Rogen/Joseph Gordon-Levitt X-Mas Movie. What are your predictions? |

Based on anticipation and Sly's current drawing power, I would say something like $12m opening, $44m total. But really, at this point I don't have any predictions. I think a trailer will give me more inspiration to make a prediction. I think the movie's success depends a lot on how successfully they attract an urban audience. I haven't seen any marketing for it yet, so I am interested to see if they choose the same retro style they chose for Rocky Balboa, or whether they'll step into modern day. |

And thus I will also wait for the trailer. The film sounded like a trainwreck, but reactions read like it might not be. |

It's released on a crowded weekend but I think if its good it can too 50m. Jordan and Coogler are great choices for this. Sly made some good choices there. |

This is such a wild card weekend. Almost anything can breakout or flop. Outside of the Good Dinosaur this at least can also attract whole families and all the films may have a chance to breath. Literally nothing is coming out of interest until Star Wars 3 weeks later (Maybe something will move.) Rocky not actually fighting either and the change in formula might be an easier sell as well for a solid sports film. Rocky Balboa managed 21 million 5 day. I don't see why this can't come close to that over the holiday. Grudge Match still managed 7 million opening despite 9 other fresh releases. But I agree trailer and marketing will be everything to this. Sounds like it's super cheap to make either way. |

Thegun wrote: Rocky not actually fighting. I think audiences might act on a "fool me once" scenario, remembering Rocky V where he also didn't fight. It could totally affect the film's potential. However, this one isn't titled "Rocky" in any way, so hopefully that won't be an issue. |

I know it won't happen, but I would love the death of Robert Chartoff to increase the breakout potential of Creed. I think only the death of Stallone would do that. |

Yeah, so this is probably going to get trashed as it opens against The Martian and The Good Dinosaur. When I started this thread I didn't know what The Martian was. I just don't see how Creed's target demo isn't being targeted by another film. It will lose out. It can probably still make $12m, though, hopefully. Perhaps $8m or $10m is more likely. Ugh ![]() |

This film was almost KO'd but has now received a last minute reprieve with The Martian moving. |

Despite it's low gross, ROCKY BALBOA was well received. The end quote "it aint about how hard you hit, its about how hard you get it" is fairly popular nowadays. Not sure exactly how this will do but it shouldn't flop. |
