Yeah, this is basically as high a profile as Scooby-Doo, The Simpsons or the Flintstones films.
Should have no issue at least opening to 55 million, even up against Bond.
Day After Tomorrow is finally going down. I'm not sure if it'll hit 275 million though. Out for now.

Re: The Peanuts Movie 275m+ Club
I would say maybe, but its from Blue Sky, and their films have sucked in recent years. Even with the brand recognition, I don't see more than 50-55 million opening. 55 million opening/ 210 million close

Re: The Peanuts Movie 275m+ Club
I loved Peanuts as a kid/early teen but I doubt it's all that well known among today's kids. It will have to rely on nostalgia to bring in adults with their kids. The comic strip peeked in the 60s and 70s but I guess we'll see.

It's still one of the most widely published comic strips in the US even though Schultz has been dead for 14 years, the specials are broadcasted every year (usually to pretty strong numbers, for modern TV), and the characters are merchandised up the wazoo. I'm skeptical about the movie actually being good, but if the marketing is strong, I think it should do well. Not sure about $275+ million, but I can see it becoming Blue Sky's biggest domestic hit ever and cross $200 million.

Not saying this is gonna do bad but why did Winnie the Pooh tank? Such a strange box office performance considering that property seems pretty iconic as well.
I'm out for now.

Re: The Peanuts Movie 275m+ Club
I would put this in the same league as Curious George and Wionie the Pooh, but with a superior release date. I think 150M is the max. I'm predicting 80M though.

Re: The Peanuts Movie 275m+ Club
It will be successful because it is Peanuts. The sentimental value is HUGE. But not huge enough for $275+ million and I simply don't see the quality being that great to make up for the gap. I think $130-150 million sounds good, similar to The Smurfs.

I'm out for now. Because Winnie the Pooh or rather Disney diluted the brand into toddler fodder. It was also like 50 minutes long or something, so people might have just shrugged it off even more as a TV special. I liked the trailer. The animation style is unique and distinct and looks like it respects the source material. I think it could be Blue Sky's biggest film. Dreamworks are in even more trouble now if all the other studios start getting massive hits. They barely kept up with Pixar after Shrek 2 and now both newcomer Illumination and resurgent Disney have surpassed them. Blue Sky have been behind the pack since the beginning, but have not really had a sullied reputation as much as Dreamworks have had for their overexposure.

Winnie the Pooh was also released against Harry Potter 8, which has a lot of kid appeal. I also don't remember even realizing it was going to be released theatrically until I saw the poster when I went to see Harry Potter. But I would definitely argue that Dreamworks is still a far stronger brand than Blue Sky.
