Then again, it depends if it gets awards buzz. The ad spend will increase by a lot of that's the case.

Yes. I was just about to say that if they decide to push it for awards then they will spend a lot more $$$$$.

I really wonder where Variety gets all these numbers from. It sems unlikely that studios release them.

They're estimated, and they are from ISpot.tv. Variety has little to do with it.

So I assume ISpot.tv records the number of commercials shown for a particular movie during particular stretches of television, multiplies it by the known cost of ads on those channels and extrapolates the numbers from that?

I really do not know, but that sounds about right. Though I am sure there is more to it than that.

So this week Creed has 1,000 airings for $4.4m, and Star Wars can only get 359 airings for $7.15m. Warner Bros. are really making their money work for them. Also with In the Heart of the Sea (735 airings for $5.5m).

That just means spreading airings across means nothing for limited films or blockbusters. SW cost the much as it went for more event airings. Creed did it right though. Great job! Though its in theaters now, you can't really compare it to a film 3 weeks away.

Why isn't this thread updated more often?

Latest ad spends:

1) $5.00m WTF ($13.79m total)
2) $4.45m Zootopia ($20.20m)
3) $4.26m Gods of Egypt ($15.92m)
4) $4.07m London Has Fallen ($17.30m)
5) $4.03m 10 Cloverfield Lane ($6.19m)

At least they didn't waste money on Allegiant's marketing. BvS marketing will just explode.

BVS has a lot of sponsors and product placement though. There are so many films now that get 50-100 million alone from that. Those Turkish Airlines Super Bowl spots for instance weren't paid for by WB at all. I've seen a few car/ watch/ and clothing commercials as well.

That's one reason this kind of info isn't that reliable. It really only gives one side to a much bigger story that is widely undocumented publicly.

Yeah there is no way only $24m would have been spent on BvS's TV ad campaign.

I am surprised at that number for MBFGW2.

Surprised Suicide Squad didn't make the lists with all the ads during the Finals.

Free State of Jones needs to attract its target audience. It has $50m invested, so another $16m on advertising is nothing, especially when all movies usually spend at least $10m anyway.
