The Lazarus Effect - 2,500

I'm going to say...

Focus - 24
The Lazarus Effect - 21

I dunno, I could see Lazarus Effect doing well since the only "horror" flick we've had so far is Woman in Black 2. Plus it's PG-13 so... yeah. And unlike Oculus this sorta has recognizable actors.

I would love it if Focus opened that high.

Focus - $32m
The Lazarus Effect - $8m

Focus will raise some eyebrows, I think. Lazarus has been sluggish on Twitter for weeks and the trailer views leave something to be desired. Don't think it will reach Oculus numbers.

The Lazarus Effect's advertising is not exciting enough. No memorable scares. Focuses more on a science-fiction type of vibe versus being balls-to-the-wall scary. And Mark Duplass and Olivia Wilde are not teen-friendly stars.

Focus - 19 million
The Lazarus Effect - 7

Wow, the next two weeks don't look great either. The next film to open with any real potential is Cinderella.

Agreed. Focus is being underestimated.

I wonder if Still Alice will expand to over 1,000 theaters this weekend.

Birdman, even though it's on DVD, will probably add theaters. Fox Searchlight returned 12 Years A Slave to 1,065 theaters after winning Picture even though it had just been released on DVD. I think they'll probably do the same with Birdman. Would be enough to get it to 10th place.

I wonder if studios make more money from home video as opposed to theater revenue. Iif not it was silly to release Birdman and Theory of Everything on bluray now when it could've had more steam in theaters.

Yeah they definitely could have made much more had they not already been available to rent/buy.

Well Lazarus wouldn't really be a bomb. Budget is no more than 4 Million.

Focus has nothing but Will Smith. People are kidding themselves if they think this will do 30 OW. it will be lucky to do 20. Margot Robbie, while hot, is not a draw, and the story looks totally generic.

Don't underestimate Smith. If not for him, I'd be predicting under $15m for this.

W/o Smith, this would do sub 10 million easily.
