Re: Fifty Shades of Grey (INTL) WW $240m
Opening record also here in Poland, but there are still no numbers. It should be more than $4,4M, though.

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey (INTL) WW $240m
Of all-time? What's the market like in Poland, is it an up and coming market with cinemas being built every month or a market like Germany?
I am just interested how a film like 50 Shades managed to be the biggest opener ever....and in February no less.

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey (INTL) WW $240m
It's a steady market. I think that there's has been a transition from one-screen cinemas to multiplexes (more screens and copies of movies) in the last 20 years but it hasn't necessarily had an influence on the growth of the audience (especially in the last couple of years).
50SoG seems to be a phenomenon in this (eastern) part of Europe. Deadline reported that there have been new records set also in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Latvia, Lithuania and the Ukraine.

Best opening of all time. http://www.croatiaweek.com/fifty-shades ... n-history/Quote: Croatia has also been swept up in the worldwide hype for Fifty Shades Of Grey, with the film earning 2,237,565 kuna (290.000 euros) in its opening weekend, a record in Croatia. In Croatia 66,545 people have watched the film since it opened at cinemas across the country on Thursday I have no idea what the previous best OW was though.

Re: Fifty Shades of Grey (INTL) WW $240m
I checked 50SoG reservations during the weekdays here in Poland and it doesn't seem to be frontloaded at all, despite the record breaking opening weekend with the record breaking one day admissions on Valentine's Day.

It's HUGE. So yeah, Universal better not let E.L. James write the script for the second. There's too much at stake .

And I guarantee if she writes the screenplay it will be a huge pile of shit.

Yeah but most regular people don't know good writing if it tied them up and shit on their chests.
It's harder to have an entertaining movie with a shitty script. Sure, you can get by with a generic script, but a shitty one is a little harder to gloss over.

But people don't exactly expect great writing when reading erotica. That's not the point. A movie has to be held to a higher standard.

In the next day or two this will have already surpassed the first Hunger Games internationally. It's already ahead of Sex & The City and the first Twilight. This is doing so impressive. Just keeps adding more and more to its spank bank .

At $486 million WW now. The fact that this is doing half a billion and then some is stunning.

international is the main reason to make sequels, considering no doubt the sequels will drop domestically.

After getting off to a rocky start with Blackhat and Seventh Son, Universal is going to have a great fucking year. It really kicked off with Fifty Shades. They seem to have several other big hits coming up too. They might rule the year.

It's not that stunning. Other book adaptations have made much more, and this book was a huge best-seller with tons of news coverage and exposure. It is as expected as could be.

What I predict and what I expect are two very different things, marky. Plus, I was talking about "expected" by the box office predicting community as a whole.
