 Re: IT begins (Friday Numbers)
Third highest OD of the year, and the biggest 2D only since Furious 7, I believe. Absolutely shocking.

 Re: IT begins (Friday Numbers)
Holy IT. The absolute minimum I see for it's OW is 117M. That's a 2.3 multiplier. Its preview to opening day was too strong and I think that sellouts are going to push business into Saturday and Sunday. Sunday will be affected by Irma and football, but I think the hype is strong enough. We may have to start talking about 300M soon.

Now add all the revenue lost from Florida and get shocked even more.

Florida has 6 % of the population of U.S.A. plus Canada (and that's what we're dealing with when we talk about domestic)

 Re: IT begins (Friday Numbers)
Even though I saw this coming I'm still in disbelief. This movie was able to open slightly bigger than SMH with an R-rating and without 3D. Even more shocking is that it almost made more than the entire opening weekend of PA3 in one fucking day. Just ridiculous no matter how many ways you look at it and now I honestly don't know where it's going to go from here. It will obviously drop a sizable amount today, but by how much? Also, are seriously in discussion for this doing $300M+? The only thing that's certain is that it's going well over $100M.

 Re: IT begins (Friday Numbers)
Fifth biggest opening day of all time for a non-sequel, behind only Avengers (I guess?), Hunger Games, Suicide Squad, and Beauty and the Beast. Incredible. Worst-worst case scenario today is probably like, $32 million, if it's super-frontloaded. Best case...could it break $40 million? Either way, $100+ million is a lock for the weekend. $100+ million opening for an R-rated horror film....unreal.

 Re: IT begins (Friday Numbers)
I truly think IT is going to be that zeitgeist movie where it creates it's own hype just from how huge it is. It will definitely have some initial front loading, but I think it'll end up having strong legs for a horror movie. It's hard to find any comps though.
It's funny to think that last year we all thought it was a great year for Horror movies: Conjuring 2- 102m, Don't Breathe- 89m, Purge 3- 79m, Cloverfield 2 (if that counts)- 72m, Lights Out- 67m, and the Shallows- 55m.
Now this year, we've had: Get Out- 175m, Split- 138m, Annabelle 2- 100m (should at least get there), Alien- 74m (flopped, but still good for horror), 47MD- 44m (did great compared to expectations). Then you throw IT in the mix which is going to open to at least 100m and finish with probably around 250m.
So the totals, minus any small movies I missed, for each year is: 2016- 464m vs 2017- ~781m
Not to mention that almost all of those films had good to excellent reviews. Feels like we're in a bit of a "golden-age" of horror movies. We will likely see a lot of them in the next few years.

 Re: IT begins (Friday Numbers)
The more I think about the more I'm seeing this as the horror equivalent of Deadpool. Not just because it has already blown away 300, but I swear to god more than half of my audience was families with their kids.
It might seem insane right now, but we may have to consider that It could be playing somewhat like a family film which should help it's Saturday drop a whole lot.

I'm seeing it tonight with friends, and apparently one of them might be bringing their 10-year-old cousin. This might be the rare four-quadrant R-rated film.

I find it very sick that parents would take their kids to this. And while it's great for ticket sales, I'd prefer just about any other type of movie to bring in tickets than this. The WORST behaved people I've ever seen at a theater last night.

I don't think it's that bad bringing a 10 year old if they have watched horror movies. I'm sure they'd very much enjoy this with the kids being the main characters. The first movie I remember watching as a kid was an Elm Street movie.

Word. This is going to blow away the adjusted OW of 300. Unreal. This certainly has the possibility of having a Deadpool-like run, ending up as almost a 4-quadrant R-rated film. Or it could end up extremely frontloaded. We'll see I guess. I fully agree though that if this is the case, it is a troubling trend in terms of society overall (even if it is fascinating for us box office fans). Deadpool is in no way, shape, or form a kids film. IT is not a kids film as well. Maybe if a kid is really mature for their age than IT would be fine, but most kids do not fall into this category. While I refuse to watch Deadpool myself, I have met a number of women and couples with some screws loose who thought Deadpool was "a great family film" and some of them took their kids with them to see it multiple times in theaters .

I saw a lot of dark, serious and horror films from a young age myself, but I've been basically a movie buff from birth . Growing up, virtually none of my friends or classmates watched the same films I did.

The WORST behaved people I've ever seen at a theater last night. They were surprisingly well behaved at my showing, but I'm not shocked to hear that it was awful in other places. I think the movie is perfectly suitable for older kids and teenagers, but I'm still not so sure about parents bringing their smaller kids. Not only because it could easily give them nightmare's, but the movie is actually pretty damn vulgar too. All I know is that the parents who decide to this better not complain if their kids pick up some new creative cuss words lol.

Obviously it depends on the maturity of the child, but generally speaking the younger the audience at this type of movie, the more disruptive the audience, which makes the experience worse for those who don't expect there to be kids at an R rated movie.

It has saved the box office. Just an awe-inspiring performance and somehow tops Beauty as the most impressive/surprising breakout opening of the year.

 Re: IT begins (Friday Numbers)
My crowd went insane for IT; laughing at every appropriate moment, reacting to all the scares, and giving a generous applause at the end.
I would not be shocked if it had a 3+ multiplier. We've already had multiple films this year pull that off, and Annabelle won't be far off.

Honestly in my experience when there are kids present at an R-Rated movie usually they're not that bad and it's adults in the audience that ruin the movie. I didn't see any kids at my showing of IT on Thursday night. It was a wide range of adults. Plenty of senior citizens which was cool to see. While my audience wasn't bad there were a few vocal ones that were kind of annoying here and there. Overall not too bad though. I was mostly just annoyed by the guy sitting next to me complaining that it wasn't scary and there were no jump scares.
